Does this food contain the whole white fish (ie organ meat and bones) or is it muscle meat only? And am I correct in my understanding that it's not raw?

Answer by ChewyJan 13, 2021
The fish, within this recipe contains only meat. No organs or bones are used. Their recipes are made from dehydrated whole food ingredients, but they're not quite the same as raw. The meats, fish, and eggs are gently steamed at about 165F before being dehydrated to make sure they're safe and free of any pathogens, without the use of harmful irradiation. The steaming process means that these ingredients are not considered raw.

I really wanted my dog to like this food more than he did. It’s low fat and pretty limited ingredient for an over the counter food. My dog only kind of likes this food though unfortunately. I was hoping that it was going to be more exciting as it was more similar to “real” human food and he would like it more but it really wasn’t a big hit. I love how easy it is to prepare. I love that there is no freezer/refrigerator necessary. I love that I literally just have to add water. It’s essentially fish oatmeal. That is a huge selling point as someone that travels constantly with their dogs and has limited freezer space. I just wish my dog actually enjoyed this food. I tried to use it as a topper and that worked a little better to make his kibble a bit more interesting/add some more nutrients to his kibble but he’d eventually stop eating the honest kitchen. I think I’ll try another flavor eventually and see if he likes it more as I do really like this company. Also, I know this is tmi and maybe just an issue with my specific dog has he has IBD but a lot of this food seemed to come back out undigested if you know what I mean. This food was okayed by his internal medicine specialist. I wasn’t giving it at random. I was worried about my dog actually getting the full nutrition of the food. All in all, I switched to something else for the meantime and I may eventually switch to a different flavor of the honest kitchen eventually with my vets permission.

Expensive but worth it

This and other fish food cured my dogs skin and ear issues. Even my picky Chihuahua mix loves it, especially when mixed with warm water into a gruel he can lap up

High quality dog food

I really like the high quality ingredients from the Honest Kitchen. I've tried several of their dehydrated flavors and my dog loves all of them, including this one

I really like the high quality ingredients from the Honest Kitchen. I've tried several of their dehydrated flavors and my dog loves all of them, including this one. It's a little tricky getting the right water to food ratio down to make it a good consistency, but once I figured that out it was super easy to prepare. I mix this with kibble at a 50/50 ratio and my pup gobbled it down.

I have 2 very stubborn shiba's. I've tried many different kibbles and wet food, ultimately they ate whenever they wanted I could never get them to eat on schedule, and sometimes they wouldn't eat until later in the evening. It's been frustrating because to me it felt like they weren't getting enough food/eating enough for their needs with everything that I've tried. I finally looked into dehydrated food because I heard it's much better for their health than kibble. I've weaned them off the kibble and they LOVE this food. They eat their breakfast and dinner as soon as I place their bowls down! It's a little on the pricey side since it definitely runs out much faster than kibble (especially if you have a bigger dog), but if they love it that much and eat well, then it's very worth it to me!
