Questions & Answers

6 Customer Questions

Curious about how this arrives and how I prepare. Will it be frozen? Do I need to do anything before feeding?
Answer by ChewyNov 02, 2021
We package frozen items in an extra-thick insulated box with a bag of dry ice. This ensures the food remains frozen all the way to your door. Food should remain frozen until meal time. Bites thaw in minutes and should be cold to touch.

Does “raw” mean uncooked? Is it safe if we warm it up in a pan?
Answer by ChewyMar 24, 2022
This raw food is never cooked. Instinct does not recommend cooking the Instinct Raw Frozen Food. If it is cooked the nutrients will be cooked out of it and your pet will not be getting the proper vitamins and minerals needed in their food.

How many cups of food are in the 5.4 lb bag?
Answer by ChewyMar 10, 2022
The 2.7-pound bag contains approximately 10 cups of food and the 5.4 -pound bag contains approximately 20 cups of food.

If used as a supplement for a 18 lb. dog, given 1 cup of dry food/day, how much is an adequate portion? Or should we cut back on the dry in lieu of added Instinct Raw
Answer by ChewyDec 06, 2021
According to the feed instructions for 16-25 lbs would be 2-3 cups. Always introduce a new food over a period of 5 to 7 days, mixing increasing amounts of Instinct with the current food each day.

So far, yes!

I started this based off recommendation from my vet, to go raw, to see if it helps my boys anal glands not expressing at poopoo time. been on this for a week now. 1 1/2 of this and his other food, and so far, no needing to get expressed—wootwoot! My boy did need to relearn how to eat because you serve frozen.-he’d regurgitate immediately (and then re-eat it). He eats a lot slower now. I’ve also been waiting a few minutes before serving his bowl- he hasn’t regurgitated since trying this method.

My puppy LOVES this!

We did an allergy test recently on our puppy and it said she was low in zinc. Lamb was one of the recommended foods to help improve her zinc levels so I bought this and she LOVES it. I also like that it has all natural ingredients with the lamb. We will definitely buy this again!

Great Food

I’ve been giving my two senior dogs instinct raw beef patties for about three years now. My bichon frise Mimi is 17 years old and runs around like a puppy. My rescue lady is 10 years old and she has lots and lots of energy. Instinct raw is one of the best foods you can feed your dog in my opinion. I’ve done the research and raw food is better quality and more nutritious then highly processed canned food. I credit my dogs health and longevity to good quality food which I feel you will get with this wonderful dog food instinct raw brand you can also use the instinct raw grass fed lamb which is another wonderful high-quality food for your dog.

Dog wouldn’t eat it

My 2 year old Mal would sniff his bowl, then walk away when this food was in it. I’m not sure why he hates it but he’s eaten other raw options and this one he just rejected time and time again.

My picky eater gobbled this up

My 5lb Maltese was so picky, she’d even up her nose at a steak, she only ate her kibble every few days when she was really hungry. Yesterday I read all the ingredients in the natural food categories and thought this looked good. When I came home and gave her a few pieces she wanted more and more but will switch her slowly in the meantime my Baby Lily has gone from picky to begging!
