Questions & Answers

5 Customer Questions

Where do the ingredients come from?
Answer by ChewyJan 13, 2021
Instinct will source most of their ingredients from the U.S. and turn to other locations only as needed. They are very stringent on sourcing and have good relationships built with their vendors for quality ingredients. All poultry, pork, and fish come from the U.S. (salmon meal from the U.S./Canada/Chile). Fish is fresh-caught from the Atlantic and Pacific. Beef and lamb are from the U.S., venison is from the U.S. and New Zealand, and rabbit is from France. The vegetables and fruits are from the U.S. and Europe depending on the ingredients.  Grains and starches are sourced from the U.S., Canada, and Brazil - herbs and spices from North America and Europe.  Vitamins and minerals are from North America, Europe, and Asia. Instinct takes every step to source non-China ingredients where they can. They do not source any meat, poultry or fish from China. Their raw frozen diets are also not made with any ingredients from China. The kibble diets may contain minor ingredients (vitamins, trace nutrients) sourced from China to ensure supply is guaranteed. Their approved supplier has put in measures to assure food safety and traceability from a trusted supply chain.

50/50 for them

This is like 50/50 for them. Some days they like it and would eat it others they wouldn’t eat it as much. They do like it at times when it’s with their fave food

Typical Cat!

Bought 2-3 of these packets several times locally to try them out. One of my cats loved it, so I got a case from Chewy. You can guess the rest if you know cats. But, it looks like a great product, and I was happy when my kitty with IBD, who was on frozen raw pork as his novel protein, decided this tasted great to him too (and it has no typical proteins (maybe except egg) that he could get sick from. So glad I had it on hand because he was kinds' sick of his mono-meals of raw pork.

Kitties approve!

My senior cat and young adult kitty both adore this meal. We recently transitioned from the canned version since they’ve both decided they no longer liked it. This one seems to do it for both so far!

Instinct has changed formula

My kitty has severe food allergies and rabbit is one protein he can eat without getting sick , meaning intestinal upsets and skin lesions, until Instinct started adding ingredients to the Healthy Cravings. I truly believe there is more pork and who knows what else has been added and less rabbit. I threw away an entire case of this because every packet I opened smelled and looked bad and gave my kitty diarrhea. I would love to be able to contact Instinct and have them reply to me. I have tried twice and no reply! I will still do business with Chewy. It's not their fault Instinct is putting out a bad product now......

He loves it

I feed this to my cat Kenny who has to be fed a novel protein due to gut issues. He loves this food. Eats it right up.

My cat does not like this last order of Instinct food

My cat Gilligan has eaten the Instinct Healthy Cravings Real Rabbit Recipe for quite some time. The last batch received from Chewy.com has not been to his liking and I understand why. It is in large pieces and seems to be tough without sufficient gravy...he turns his nose up to it even if I smash it up with a fork. Would certainly appreciate a replacement box since he has always liked it before!

great option for food allergies

My one cat has a chicken and seafood allergy, so it hard to find food options for her.. Both of my cats will actually eat this. My only complaint is it’s for supplemental feeding only.

My cat loves this stuff!

My cat, Storm, is food sensitive. Rabbit is a protein he can eat, so I'm thrilled to add this to his dry food and he loves it!

He loves it

My cat loves this. He can only have rabbit ,pork and venison due to ibd. I give this to him as a snack as it doesn’t have the necessary nutrients and taurine in it. That’s very disappointing. I do wish Instinct would formulate it as a complete meal. I would imagine it really wouldn’t take much to do that.
