What exactly is rabbit meal?

Rabbit meal is a high quality concentrated protein source that contains muscle meat. By law it may not contain heads, feet or intestines. Meal is made by grinding the protein after it has been rendered (cooked in a stew-like way but at high temperatures) and then dried so it'll contain a higher protein content and low moisture which helps provide the pet with the most nutritional value in the food.

The rabbit is sourced from France and Italy. All of the materials used in the Instinct raw diets are obtained from USDA-inspected facilities (or meet USDA requirements in the case of imports) and from animals that have passed ante- and post-mortem inspection. Their quality control and quality assurance programs include but are not limited to: Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP’s), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s), a Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points (HACCP) program, regular lot segregation, and other industry best practices. That said, their manufacturing facilities are used to produce pet food rather than human food, and since this is not in line with the USDA's definition of human grade, their foods cannot be classified as being human grade.

Instinct cleans the lines in between products that include removing all the product off the line, rinsing the production lines, washing and sanitizing the lines. Instinct also tries to schedule products to run on different days, to lower chances of cross contamination. However, their recipes are manufactured in a facility that manufactures other proteins, so trace amounts of other proteins could be possible.

They cannot resist!

We have two cats on this diet for about a year now give or take. We were trying to find a limited ingredient food for IBS and vomiting issues and have this a try

We have two cats on this diet for about a year now give or take. We were trying to find a limited ingredient food for IBS and vomiting issues and have this a try. They almost always finish their bowls with this kibble. Be warned that their feces will be almost black with this diet because the kibble itself is so dark in color. NOTE. it still has other protein ingredients besides rabbit, read label if your pet has a true allergy

After pulling up the nutrient analysis, she informed me that this diet is far too high in fat (and it's 19% MINIMUM) for a dry cat food. She may have low grade pancreatitis and, if so, it's very possible this food has been making it worse. Not to mention the echoing of other reviews: on this food she has the MOST RANK poops she's ever had.

Food allergies dramatically improved

Our cat who has chicken, corn, flax, tomato, and rice allergies and has terrible sinus and breathing reactions to any of these ingredients has improved dramatically after one small bag. We tried fish, which he was not supposed to be allergic too, he actually got worse. This has made his life unbelievably better already. He was literally sneezing, snoring and wheezing like an asthmatic a month ago. Now his nose is clear, he no longer wheezes or snores, and his eyes are barely watering at all. Before, I had to wash his face nearly daily to remove the crusted snot and eye drainage just so he could breathe. He is on no medication, he is happy to eat the food. Yes, it is very dark-colored but does not smell to me at all, not nearly as bad as the fish did for sure. Every animal in my house and our outside stray have happily eaten it and there has been no problems with any of them. Remember this is made with peas, not corn, it's not going to be the same color as the corn products you are accustomed to. I highly recommend trying it if you have a kitty with intractable allergy symptoms like our boy.

Provides omegas for cats on dry food diets

My baby Fitz has a tongue disorder that prevents him from being able to eat wet food. He was really happy with his American Journey kibble, but I wanted to give him variety and also add in something with some healthy fats. He looooves this Instinct Limited Ingredient Rabbit food. I mix in about 20% with his other kibble because the Instinct alone has so many oils, it’ll make your kitty fat in no time if it’s their primary food. I hate giving him a dry food diet, but he just can’t get wet food down. Every day I squirt water into his mouth with 5ml oral syringes to ensure he stays hydrated. Also - Fitz has zero teeth (he’s healthier and pain-free this way) and he’s able to eat this kibble no problem. As far as dry food goes, Instinct has good ingredients and is worth the price. I never met a cat that didn’t go crazy for the taste. I fill up little jars with Instinct kibble for my mum to give her cats as treats and she’s used it to teach them a couple of tricks (sit and touch).

Relieved So Many Health Issues!

I had tried several different types of cat food across different brands (I did use the proper method for switching Foods), but my cat was still constantly vomiting

I had tried several different types of cat food across different brands (I did use the proper method for switching Foods), but my cat was still constantly vomiting and never seemed very interested in eating. In an effort to avoid putting him on a prescription diet, I decided to try Instinct Limited Ingredient Diet Real Rabbit recipe and it has been wonderful. Roland has completely stopped vomiting and actually gets excited whenever I get the food out, rubbing against and winding himself through my legs, meowing excitedly the whole time. I'm so happy to have found a food he likes that doesn't make him sick!

I dropped the RX and switched his food to Basic Instinct Real Rabbit (which he loves), and he’s like a different cat now. Over a year later, his weight has rebounded, he acts normal now. Didn’t work out

My cat has always eaten Freely dry rabbit which has now been discontinued. Gave this a try, very gradually transitioned over several weeks. My cat ended up with

My cat ended up with horrible diarrhea when solely on Instinct dry. She has a poultry allergy so it’s hard to find a suitable food. Unfortunately this isn’t it.

I’m starting to think there is something addictive in this food because my cat has become completely obnoxious with his loud insistent begging for it all day long!!
