Is this food really supposed to be totally BLACK in color?
Answer by ChewyNov 15, 2017
This kibble has a raw coating and the formula has a high protein content. This gives the kibble a very dark brown, almost black color.

What exactly is rabbit meal?
Answer by ChewyMar 18, 2020
Rabbit meal is a high quality concentrated protein source that contains muscle meat. By law it may not contain heads, feet or intestines. Meal is made by grinding the protein after it has been rendered (cooked in a stew-like way but at high temperatures) and then dried so it'll contain a higher protein content and low moisture which helps provide the pet with the most nutritional value in the food.

Hi Where do get rabbit and is human grade rabbit???thank you.
Answer by ChewyJun 04, 2019
The rabbit is sourced from France and Italy. All of the materials used in the Instinct raw diets are obtained from USDA-inspected facilities (or meet USDA requirements in the case of imports) and from animals that have passed ante- and post-mortem inspection. Their quality control and quality assurance programs include but are not limited to: Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP’s), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s), a Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points (HACCP) program, regular lot segregation, and other industry best practices. That said, their manufacturing facilities are used to produce pet food rather than human food, and since this is not in line with the USDA's definition of human grade, their foods cannot be classified as being human grade.

What is the salt content on a dry matter basis? I have a kitty with skin problems and heart problems so I need a LID with less that 0.30 salt.
Answer by ChewyOct 10, 2018
The Sodium content of this food is 0.55% on a dry matter basis.

Try the small bag first

Based on other reviews and the price of the food, I was hesitant to waste my money on a limited ingredient cat food that would smell terrible and my cats poop smell even worse. AND on top of that, I have three cats…I highly doubted that all three would like the food. To say I’m pleasantly surprised is an understatement. This cat food (in my opinion) does not smell any worse than any other cat food I’ve fed my boys. I’ve always been prompt with cleaning the litter box as well, so that is non-issue for me. On top of all that, my three cats took to this food fairly quickly. My older boy turned his nose up the first day as I mixed it into their food, but after almost two weeks, they will impatiently sit at their food bowls while I measure out their portions. I will continue to buy this food, as I also am looking to relieve 2 of 3 cats of their skin/ear allergic reactions. I’m still monitoring for improvements in thats aspect, but still pleased so far!

Big save for my kitty's diet

My local pet store hasn't had this product available for months. When it came time for me to get more - they were still out. Chewy to the rescue. This product is the only kibble that doesn't make my kitty puke. We interchange her feeding with raw food and these kibble - no more puking. She loves these kibble. The only drawback is she has gained weight - but we are adjusting kibbles with a new automatic dispenser. Stay tuned. In short - great product not available in my local pet store - but available on Chewy. Win - win!

causes sticky, stinky poop

My 3 cats love this food, however we have to clean litter boxes immediately after they go poop or the whole house smells horribly! Even the cats rush out of the litter box after going poop-even they can’t stand their poop smell from their food! Also their poop sticks to the fur around their anuses, only from this food. I have to warm wipe my cats butts, when they eat this food. Seriously a stinky, messy food option.

Success!!!

I waited two weeks days before writing this review. Long story short, I have a cat that my vet put on a Hydrolyzed Protein diet which seemed to mostly cure his vomiting. But the food is very expensive and requires extra vet visits. After researching many other foods, I decided on this one. I transitioned him to the new food over the course of a week, as is always recommended. Cats don't like changes, and this was no exception. I have been adding a teaspoon of wet food as a meal "topper" and now he eats it just fine, AND he hasn't thrown up once!!! As everyone says, the food is black and smelly and therefore the poop is black and smelly, but honestly it didn't smell that good anyway! I am thrilled for my 14-year-old guy!

Cat loves it, humans nose hates it

I'm going to start with the fact that my cat loves the food. 10/10 loves it. She has a sensitive stomach and throws up a lot. The food is black so the throw up is black. I can handle that because she loves the food and the barfing has nothing to do with the food. The poop however... she has always had smelly poop. But this? This is a whole new level of smelly. And it is black like the food and vomit. The smell though... be warned. It's excessive. I'll keep feeding it to her because she loves it. But don't say you read this review and weren't warned.

Cat Likes it—I Do Not

My cat goes crazy for this stuff! but it’s definitely making her tummy hurt because she’s had consistent nasty diarrhea and smelly poop that radiates throughout my entire house.

Great for very special needs cat.

It's high protein (for his FIV) and it's super-limited ingredients (for his allergies) and it's expensive and gross (for who he is as a person).

Stinky, sticky poop

Here is the thing.....my cats love this food. They are very excited to eat it every day. We have been trying various proteins due to frequent vomiting for my male. He has been doing better but still has occasional vomiting. That being said it makes their poop extra stinky but what's worse is the clay in it makes their poop stick to them. We have had to wipe dingle berries off them every couple days. So if you have long haired cats like I do I would pass on this one

Paw-Licking Delish!

Our kitties absolutely love this dry food! Their coat is soft and luxurious! They run for the bowl when they see me coming with a scoop full of it! I was told by a pet store person that rabbit alone would be helpful if they were having skin/coat/allergy/digestive issues. Neither of them have that issue any longer and we just keep buying it!
