GARBAGE-NOT WORTH THE RISK

I have a cat that suffers from asthma and food allergies. I have been feeding him this food for years because it was free of common allergen triggering ingredients, that is no longer the case. What used to be a quality food choice that was dark in color with vegetables you could see and plenty of gravy is now a sticky, sickly flesh colored paste that won't even come off the bottom or sides of the can, and now contains allergy triggering ingredients. It is insulting that the manufacturer would quietly degrade the quality of this food while still charging the same price but infuriating that they would do so while also becoming a product that is harmful to cats with food allergies or medical conditions.

Recipe and Consistency Change

My cat is incredibly food motivated but and the lamb recipe was her favorite for years. Like “wake me up at 5:30am knocking things off the counter bc she wanted breakfast NOW” kind of favorite. Cans used to contain actual veggies like peas and a generous amount of gravy that my girl ate ravenously. My last two orders contained cans with the consistency of a thick, sticky, grotesque mush that my glutton of a cat won’t even touch. While I appreciate the extra sleep, the fact that my cat no longer asks for breakfast is a big screaming red sign that this recipe change is a HUGE miss. I wish I had read comments sooner - now like many others, I’m stuck with expensive cases of garbage and I have to search for a new food. Instinct, please do better.

ingredients are NOT as advertised

be very careful buying this product. chewy is a great company, instinct not so much.... I have purchased instinct for 5 years now, and have noticed significant changes to quality lately. I opened a can of lamb, and was overwhelmed by the smell of fish. I thought a packaging error had occurred and contacted the company. I was told they are now adding tuna oil to this product. My cat is allergic to tuna, and I am lucky it smelled so bad, or I could have made him sick. If you read the ingredients on the label instinct provided chewy, you will not see tuna listed anywhere. It is NOT lamb, it is lamb and turkey and now tuna. I will be very careful in my research as I choose another brand...the rabbit formula is not mainly rabbit, either, it is pork - not recommended for cats.

Formula changed!

This used to be my cat’s favorite and everyday food for several years. But latest batch I got was made in Thailand and formula changed. Now it have guar gum in it. My cat refused to eat it. Won’t purchase it any more.

Not palatable

I have 5 cats. One is having allergies. His vet told me to feed him cleaner foods with exotic protein, as chicken is a common allergy for cats. The can says it is lamb so this is an exotic protein. It meets the "cleaner" qualification with 95 percent lamb, turkey and liver; I probably should have read the label better because I should probably be avoiding all poultry and I don't know which animal the liver is from. I am not sure that cats need the five percent vegetables, fruits and other wholesome ingredients but it is a low enough percentage that it doesn't bother me. I don't know whether it is the taste or the texture (the pate was rock solid, not juicy at all, like other pates) but none of my cats would eat this. (I usually use the stars to indicate how many cats like it but couldn't write a review with zero stars.) So I will not buy this again.

I’m in the process of switching my two Bengals food. Tried this lamb pate and they both enjoyed it.

Buying smaller amounts

My cats wouldn't eat this--I wish I could have purchased a few cans to try it out before having to buy in large quantity of expensive cat food. Maybe chewy could offer a mixed-box of each brand that would make that possible.

Instinct Grain Free Pate

my 16 yr old cat seems to like it pretty well, but prefers canned food with gravy. The Lamb recipe pate is a little dry. I wish it was available as a minced meat with gravy
