It states finest ingredients "from around the world" exactly where and what are the ingredients? Why would they need to get ingredients from other countries?
Answer by • Dec 29, 2017
Nature's Variety is committed to using high quality, safe ingredients from government-inspected facilities. The natural ingredients are continuously inspected for quality and tested for analytical compliance before being accepted at their facilities.
They do not source any of the meat or poultry from China. All of the poultry and pork come from the U.S., the beef is from the U.S. and New Zealand, lamb is from the U.S., Australia, and New Zealand, venison is imported from Australia and New Zealand, and the rabbit is imported from France and Italy. They are very stringent in their sourcing standards and prioritize building close relationships with the vendors.
Do they use non GMO peas and other vegetables?

This product is not GMO-free.
What is the calcium/phosphorus ratio of this product
Answer by • May 03, 2022
This recipe has a calcium to phosphorus ratio of 1.6:1. The calcium content is 0.55% as-fed (2.50% dry matter) and the phosphorus content is 0.35% as-fed (1.59% dry matter).
What is the taurine content on a dry matter basis?
Answer by • May 07, 2020
Instinct does not test for taurine in any of their formulas. Meat naturally contains a lot of taurine through amino acids methionine and cysteine and is the primary source of naturally derived taurine. Because their recipes are meat-rich at Instinct, all recipes have more than adequate levels of these naturally-occurring amino acids given the amount of animal ingredients they include. Because taurine naturally occurs in their recipes, they do not need to supplement with taurine in their diets.
The previous formula did not have any common allergens, less inflammatory ingrediants. Now includes and replaced with material known for GI upset and/or aggravates a CKD, IBS, and asthmatic cat. You removed turkey. In place now is Commercial Chicken, Chicken Broth, Chicken Liver (Felines known for chicken allergies), Egg Product (Feline are obligate carnivores), Dicalcium Phosphate (increases calcium and Phosphorus values), Tuna Fish Oil (higher in mercury and pesticides, inflammatory, GI Upset) Peas. (Starch, long term IBD, stomach upset). Did not announce a recipe change knowing it’s an inferior product to previous formula and Chewy, shame on you, under “Nutrition” you did not update the recipe change that had occurred at minimum of 5 months ago that included chicken, egg, etc. Agree with many reviews of one (1) star. Many feline parents who have maladies may accidental offer a food their cat/s are highly allergic to. The new recipe no longer meets any quality standards it once was. All changed quietly. Irresponsible on two (2) fronts.

He LOVES it!!
First, I ordered the Rabbit Pate flavor, which he loves so much that he won't eat other brands of wet cat food any more. This time, I ordered the Duck recipe. Wow!!! He LOVES it even more than the rabbit recipe!! So now, he has a little variety between the two recipes.

Thought It Was Worth a Try
In the past, I mostly gave my cats dry food. After reading up on the pros and cons, decided to change to wet. Another customer's review, stating the combination of rabbit and duck, really stuck so I ordered both. Olly inhales these two. May try salmon and chicken.

Regret Buying
I used Instinct canned foods several years ago and quit buying it because I got tired of digging out whole peas and chunks of carrots from every can. I was recently looking for a duck flavored food and decided to try this brand again as the cats did enjoy it and always did well with it. Upon opening the can, I was surprised at the change in consistency from when I had used it before. Within two days of trying it, my 10 year old ended up at the vets with severe vomiting and diarrhea. After a $450 bill for a gastroenteritis diagnosis with seven days of medication, I pulled this food from their meals. While my other two cats didn't seem to have problems with it, I am VERY uneasy after reading of similar situations in other reviews and will not risk using this food again.

Love Autoship!
This is the only wet canned food my cat will eat. He is so picky! I love the option of auto ship because I always tend to wait until the last minute so now I don't have to think about it. Also, I love the discount that comes with autoship. Thank you Chewy!

New Formula- Cats Say No, No, No
We have been feeding our cats this brand for years. They have changed the formula without giving customers a heads-up, which every cat owner knows is a must due to a cat's sensitivity to food changes. Very poor form on the company's part.
It now has guar gum, which my IBS cats can't tolerate. The flavor panel has changed as well, and my other cats won't eat it anymore. They used to love it.
Cats were also having diarrhea and vomiting. I couldn't figure out what was going on until I picked up the label, read it and saw the changes. Then went to the Internet to see what was going on.
THANKFULLY, Chewy is awesome and has accepted the return of the new formula cans. I can always count on Chey even when I can't count on pet food manufacturers. I am now on the hunt for new food for sensitive and picky eaters.

Won't even smell it....not pleased!
I adopted a cat who ate only dry kibble two years ago. Finding a wet food & protein she was willing to accept and eat without vomiting was a real challenge! When we finally settled with Instinct duck, I was okay with it, at least temporarily. Every time I allow her to eat chicken, dry or wet, there's a problem about three days in. Sure enough, the other reviews I read about a change in formula, the addition of chicken and cats rejecting it were real. Thanks to those who took the time to write about this so I had a heads-up. We're searching again for something healthy and that she will want to eat. It's very frustrating when manufacturers can't produce a quality product without the "ugly" ingredients cats were never made to eat.

First Chicken, now Duck
Is Instinct planning to move all of their food production to Thailand? I got the first batch of their spoiled-smelling, glutinous chicken about seven months ago, and today got a batch of duck that smells and looks just about the same. My cat won’t eat it, and now I’m stuck with a bunch of expensive food I wouldn’t give to a stray. Time to start looking for a new brand of food—I don’t trust Instinct anymore.

all cans dented
I liked this cat food because it had duck and no chicken for my cats with IBD. I'm leaving this review because ALL 24 cans I received were dented even though the packaging was fine. This means that the company, Instinct, shipped questionable product to Chewy (I feel like this happens a lot with online shopping). Since my cat can eat it, I was going to continue buying it, BUT I just noticed in other reviews that they recently changed the formula to add chicken without telling anyone (and I was getting this through autoship)!! So, I will not be buying it again - VERY disappointed. Lastly, I was going to say that I didn't really like all of the duck bones (sometimes they're a bit big) and my cats don't like the whole peas, but now I guess it doesn't matter :(

Awful - Formula Change, Very Disappointed!!!
Instinct Duck was our cats' favorite for many years. We were not aware of the formula change until we received the latest batch from Chewy. Food looked and smelled very different and none of our cats would touch it. Then we noticed the label shows "Product of Thailand" (v.s. "Made in the U.S.") and ingredients are drastically different. It is a shame that Nature's Variety did not inform its customers about this ingredient and formula change. Will not buy this again unless they bring back the original formula.
