Would this work for small pills for a cat?

Answer by ChewyDec 02, 2019
This pill gun is suitable for cats and dogs, and will work for even smaller animals.

How does the water get into the pill popper? No instructions on my pill popper.

Answer by ChewyMar 27, 2020
First, remove the plunger from the pill gun. Insert the pill into the dispenser and add a small amount of water. You may need to plug the open end with your finger depending on the size of the pill to prevent leaking. Then reinsert the plunger and dispense medication to your pet.

Does the tip come off? I'm concerned about it coming off and lodging in my dog's throat.

Answer by ChewyMay 03, 2020
The tips of this pill gun does not detach.

How long is it?

Answer by ChewyAug 27, 2024
The pill gun measures 6 inches long.

This is too small even for my cat's HALF pill. I can't imagine you could fit any sort of dog pill in it. Maybe it would help to include size info on the product

This is too small even for my cat's HALF pill. I can't imagine you could fit any sort of dog pill in it. Maybe it would help to include size info on the product page. The opening is only about a quarter of an inch. The product seems decent enough if you can get your pill to fit, hence 2 stars instead of only 1.

The concept is great but it's to small your holding the gun,and trying to pry my cats mouth open at the same time. All while the cat is scratching at your hands, after your done my hands are bloody, itchy and it's not worth the pain I go thru. I got a longer one off my vet, disolve the pill in water suck it up pry open his mouth and he can't reach my hand to scratch me and with the pill fully dissolved and in the syringe it's no problem. Disolve the pills first, and it's alot easier.

I did rescue for years and never found another cat piller anywhere near as good as this one! Unfortunately, I gave away all but one of those I had and then couldn't find them ANYwhere for the last several years. I was so excited to find these (and to receive them today and see that, indeed, they are exactly the same ones I've been searching for all this time)! IDK what the nonsense is about putting water in these; that seems like a terrible idea for two or three different reasons. Use these just for the pill and then a separate syringe (no needle, of course) for a bit of water to "chase" the pill with.

The concept is sound but it is way too short in length. The point of using a pill gun is to get it in the back of the animal’s throat safely, and the short design does not allow this…your hand is just outside the mouth, and with a thrashing cat of dog, one can get a puncture wound by accident.

The idea for these is great, but due to its poor design, its application is useless. For one thing, the piece that holds the pill is too small to hold either pill my puppy needs to take (even the ones cut in half). The second problem is the fact that it's impossible to fill with water regardless of the pill shape/size. The idea is it will retain water with the pill loaded or with a finger covering the opening; however, the dispenser is cheaply made, so the opening is not smooth. This means, no matter the size of the pill, it will not hold water once loaded. Also, even if you try to place your finger over the opening, you have to remove the pill and peel the pill holder arms away to plug it. Finally, and in my opinion the worst part of this product, THERE ARE NO instructions. Chewy responded to another person in the Q&A section asking for directions and I followed those steps, but still had issues. Add the fact that these are single-use and mostly unusable, the cost is so unjustifiable.

12 pill guns, really?

I don't need twelve pill guns. Do they not last? I only need 0ne.

The idea is great but the design fell short for my needs. Even though the end was big enough to hold the pill, it held it so loosely that it kept falling out (in the struggle with my dog) before I could even get it in her mouth. Also, the probe that pushes the pill out would not work for smaller pills. It does not come all the way to the end of the syringe where the pill sits so it would not be long enough to push a small pill out of the holder.

The best pill gun I have ever used is really too big for cats, and it has taken me forever to find a good one for felines. This one is it. It works very well for me. So far, I'm using it to give my cats a small piece of large dog Capstar, since that is the economical way to go. I just draw up a little water into the gun, wipe the pill holder parts dry and then place in the piece. Sometimes the pill piece doesn't shoot out the first time, and I have to shoot it again, but most of the time it works the first time. The cats barely react to it at all. It's a slim gun that has no piece that can break off or shoot off into the cat's mouth. Soon, I will be using it with Bayer dewormer pills. That's what I actually got it for, since I can also give the cats Capstar dissolved in water with a syringe. Can't do that with deworming pills! They must be horribly bitter. I'm sure the pill gun will have no problem holding the Bayer pills, too.
