Questions & Answers

13 Customer Questions

do i mix Just Food with kibble and do i feed recommended amount twice a day
Answer by ChewyApr 14, 2022
The total amount of food per day is calculated based on feeding 100% of the JustFoodForDogs meal. This amount can be divided into multiple feedings. If your dog currently eats twice a day, please continue to feed twice a day. We do recommend kicking the kibble completely. After a full transition to fresh whole food meals to prevent tummy upset, your dog will begin to maximize the health benefits such as a boost in their immune system.

Do you serve this food cold right out of the refrigerator or you need to heat it up a little. Also, do you add water or nothing.
Answer by ChewyApr 08, 2022
This food does not require heating before serving. It is not necessary to add water or anything to this food. For feeding recommendations, click on the "Feeding Instructions" tab, next to the "Nutritional Info" and "Description" tab, just below the product pictures.

Are the packets resealable?
Answer by ChewyApr 06, 2022
The Fresh Frozen packages are not resealable. For best food handling practices, directly after the food defrosts, we recommend emptying the food into a reusable Tupperware or Pyrex type container for easier management. Think of handling fresh and frozen food for dogs and cats the same as you would your own food (containing dairy or meats). Additionally, the packages are good in the freezer for up to one year, as they are vacuum-sealed. Refrigerated leftover food or unused open fresh food would need to be discarded in 3 - 5 days (depending on the protein type). Once they are thawed in the refrigerator, the meals that do not contain any fish are good for five days (once opened and thawed) and the meals containing fish remain fresh for just three days. When feeding fresh whole food meals we suggest leaving the meal out for a maximum of 20 minutes at a time.

how much food, by volume (number of cups) is in an 18 ounce package?
Answer by ChewyMay 02, 2022
JustFoodForDogs suggest feeding by ounces as it is the most accurate form of volume measurement. Generally, there is about 1 cup to every 8 fluid ounce. The 18-ounce package has a little over two cups and the 72-ounce package has approximately 9 cups.

Brown Rice might be more nutritious

Seems like a good food, came perfectly frozen, and my dogs love it. I am also glad that they offer meals that do contain grain and not just grain-free. However...its pricey, especially if you have large dogs. I wonder though, why didn't they use brown rice instead of the less nutritious white? Another plus for this food is that they don't require a subscription like most of the fresh-food companies do, allowing me the freedom to start slowly and mix with their dry food at the rate and amount I want!

Food is great, Packaging is not

For the price, the food is great, however, the packaging is in need of major improvement. For a 72 oz bag, it needs to be resealable because otherwise the liquid leaks out and the bag doesn't fit in a standard gallon Ziplock. There also could be a better way of packaging overall (maybe in a frozen meal style plastic tray) because it's so hard to get the food out from the bag without making a mess.

Not Happy with Chicken and Rice

I just got a second shipment of this food before I could cancel it. It goes bad really quickly and has caused my pups upset stomach and gas. They have never had an issue with JFFD before but we always ordered the fish. I will look for a different brand going forward.

just food food dogs

My dog likes the food, but he likes all food. The food is very expensive considering the ingredients. I put the 72oz package in the refrigerator to thaw and when it thawed, a lot of water leaked out of the package into my refrigerator (probably six ounces or more). Not acceptable at these prices.

Package size is too big for small dogs

The food seems well made, and my dogs love it. But the package size is way too big for them to finish before it goes bad. I have a 5 lb chihuahua, and a 10 lb Jack Russell. They can only finish about 1/2 a package in 3 days, so the other half gets tossed. Wish this came in smaller packages.

Great Food!

I rescued a 3-year-old german shepherd who was 69 pounds when we got her 3 months ago. She was skinny and lacking nutrition she needed. We started feeding her JustFood For Dogs mixed with her kibble and she devours it. She absolutely loves it and licks the bowl clean. She’s 74 pounds now and has a healthy, soft, thick coat. This mixed with her kibble have definitely improved her health. Worth every penny.

I would highly recommend to family and friends

My handsome baby Aurum gives a paws up for this product. We received this product as part of a free sample program, and absolutely love it. It came in an amazing container as well. The smell and consistency compared to other companies we have tried is much more pleasant. We would most definitely recommend this to family and friends.

Doggy approved

We received this product as part of a free sample program and she loved it! She is a puppy about 10 months and this motivated her during training. My favorite thing about it was knowing what exactly is in the food. This chicken flavor was her favorite over the fish but she enjoyed both overall.

Healthy ingredients for my dog

I received this food free as a sample. I loved the packaging and no mess upon arrival and was still frozen. My dog liked the Just Food for Dogs Chicken & White Rice but would ONLY eat it if I put in microwave and warmed it. I did thaw it out completely but it still needed to be warmed up a little. I would put on top of her dry food. She didn't seem to be a big fan of the carrots. The ingredients were fresh and healthy for her though as she gobbled it down. She is only 10 lbs so one pouch would last her a few days but make sure to put in a sealed bag when storing in refrigerator. I did notice if she didn't eat all in one setting she wouldn't want the rice later as it would get very hard when dried out. I do recommend this food and will purchase in the future.

Dog Loved, then liked

We received the JustFoodForDogs Chicken & White Rice Recipe Fresh Frozen Dog Food, 18-oz pouch as a part of a free sample program. Our Golden Retriever loves food and trying new things! He was so excited the first couple days when he ate this! Especially the first day. He gobbled it up! The third day he ate it a little slower, after that he would only eat part of it. Buddy had never been a picky eater. I am wondering if it has to do with the texture a bit? The texture may turn off some dogs. It's a griany texture like rice which would make sense because it has rice in it. Maybe if the rice was cooked more into it the recipe would be better? He seemed to eat it better when warmed a bit and quished it up. Not sure though why he didn't have an issue with the texture at first? Regardless all and all it's seems very healthy, good ingredients, smells like people food. Definitely more healthy than his kibble. Since he didn't "love it" and because it would be expensive to buy enough to feed my large dog I probably wouldn't buy it again. However for someone with a small or medium size dog I would recommend they give it a try for the health benefits. Their dog may love it like Buddy did in the beginning!
