What temperature does the unit keep the water at?

This heater safely maintains open water to -20° Fahrenheit.

Can this be used with an extension cord...any rating?

MET requires that all manufacturers put the extension cord statement “Do not use with extension cord” on every item that is MET listed by UL 499 standards. This is because they cannot test every extension cord on the market in conjunction with our products for safety. Also, MET suggests that an extension cord is not recommended as a permanent fixture and should only be a temporary solution when using any electrical product.

Does this heater have a thermostat or is it always on?

There is not an off/on switch. The unit is always on when plugged in. MET Safety Laboratories suggests unplugging the unit if you leave your home on an extended vacation, as they do with any electrical appliance. Otherwise, it is designed for 24/7 operation and you can leave it plugged in all day. This item has been certified by MET labs to adhere to strict electrical safety standards.

Can this be used in a 50 gallon stock tank?

Not good for keeping a bird bath unfrozen

I purchased this to replace a 70-watt heater I had been using to keep my bird bath unfrozen - thinking that the higher wattage would work better to keep it ice free

I purchased this to replace a 70-watt heater I had been using to keep my bird bath unfrozen - thinking that the higher wattage would work better to keep it ice free. I was very, very wrong. I looked out the windows at my birdbath and the birds appeared to be standing on the water - in actuality there was a ring of ice all around the bird bath with a bit of unfrozen water in the middle. Granted, this is sold as a bucket heater, not a bird bath heater so it might work better in a bucket due to the smaller surface area exposed to the cold but it did not work well at all in my bird bath.

Does not work in freezing temps

Got this to keep a 7 gallon tub of water unfrozen and does not work. Water freezes all the way through. Do not buy if your temps drop below freezing.

Doesn't appear to work.

I had one before that kept the water almost tepid. Sadly, it failed electrically so I ordered this one, which was more expensive, and I had hoped for an upgrade

COMPACT, FITS FLAT IN BUCKET

It lays flat at the bottom of the bucket and the clip holds the cord straight up the side so there is no chance of it getting in the way when drinking.
