We recommend choosing the bowl size depending on how much your pet eats in a single serving. The Small has a capacity of 1¾ cup, the Medium has a capacity of 3½ cups, the Large has a capacity of 6½ cups and the X-Large has a capacity of 7¾ cups.

This was probably my misunderstanding, but I assumed a 1.75 cup bowl would be a bowl for 1.75 cups of food/water (i.e., slightly larger so it wasn't full to the top), but 1.75 is pretty much the maximum capacity. If I were buying again, I'd get a slightly bigger one, but it does work. The bowl itself is nice. It's easy to clean, pretty, and has stood up well to my dog carrying it around.
