How do I choose the right size for my dog?
First, use a fabric dressmaker’s tape or a string and ruler to measure snugly around the middle of your dog’s neck. Add 5% for a comfortable fit. Then, measure around the widest part of your dog’s head to ensure the collar can slip over before adjusting. This collar is 3/4’’ wide and available in two adjustable neck sizes: 10-14”, 15-22”. Please note that all items are handmade. Because every item is cut and sewn by hand, here at our workshop in New Hampshire, it is possible that there will be some variance in our size measurements.
What is a martingale collar?
A martingale collar is a limited-slip training and walking collar designed for dogs that tend to slip out of traditional collars or pull on the leash. It features two loops: one that adjusts like a regular collar for a secure fit and a second that tightens slightly when the dog pulls, or tries to back out, providing gentle control without choking. Once the dog stops pulling, the loop loosens for comfort. For safety, martingale collars are for training and leash walking only and should never be left on an unattended or unleashed dog.
Is the collar reflective or glow-in-the-dark?
This collar is reflective, not glow-in-the-dark. The woven reflective threads reflect light back to the source for enhanced visibility in low-light conditions but do not emit light on their own.
Will the reflective material wear off over time?
No! Unlike printed reflective coatings that can scratch or peel, the reflective threads in our collars are woven directly into the nylon, ensuring long-lasting visibility.
Can I attach a leash to this collar?
Yes! The collar features a welded, nickel-plated steel D-ring, making it easy to attach a leash or ID tags securely.
Can I attach an ID tag to this collar?
Yes! The collar features a second welded, nickel-plated steel D-ring, allowing you to easily add a tag. You can also explore the embroiderable version of this collar for built-in identification or opt for slide-on tags as a lightweight alternative.
How do I adjust the collar for the best fit?
Use the non-slip tri-glide adjuster to tighten or loosen the collar, push the webbing through the slider to create excess material, then pull it through on the other side to adjust. For best fit, ensure the collar is snug, but not too tight. The molded teeth in the adjusters keep it securely in place, ensuring a snug yet comfortable fit.
How do I clean the collar?
To clean your LupinePet gear, spot-clean, machine or hand wash with warm (not hot) water and mild soap. No bleach, brighteners or whiteners. Air dry only – do not put them in the dryer. For extreme situations, pre-soaking in an enzymatic cleaner like Nature’s Miracle or Simple Solution may be helpful. When machine washing, put items in a mesh bag or include items in with jeans or other sturdy clothes. Shampoos and other topical treatments that contain bleaching agents, clarifiers, medicines or other chemicals can cause colors to transfer to your pet’s fur. When washing your pets gear, bathing your pet or applying any of the above, we recommend that their gear be removed until the items and/or your pet’s fur are completely dry.
