Lysodren (Mitotane) Tablets, 500-mg

This is an oral tablet that treats pituitary-dependent Cushing's disease (hyperadrenocorticism). It can also be used to treat some of the symptoms associated with adrenal gland tumors.

Give exactly according to your veterinarians instructions. It is usually recommended to give this medication with a high fat treat or food to help increase absorption.

Your veterinarian will usually start your pet on a high dose at first and then gradually decrease the dose to the minimum dose to be effective. Your veterinarian will monitor your pet closely to make sure he/she is on the correct dose of medication. With Cushing's disease and some types of tumors, excess steroid hormone is produced. Lysodren helps the adrenal gland to produce less steroid hormone so levels can return to normal.

Your pets symptoms associated with Cushings disease should improve with time but the response to Lysodren is individual. If Lysodren is helping, it is usually used chronically for the rest of your pets life.
