I have a six year old Shih Tzu who loves this food. The freeze dried bites are the first part that he eats. His coat is nice and shiny and he has lots of energy to play. I recommend this food highly to any pet parent.
Freeze dried to kibble ratio getting less and less
After having to hunt this food down, I finally found it on chewy. My dog has allergies and does best on this food. The box was damaged when it was delivered but the actual food bag was okay. My dog goes crazy for the little freeze dried bites mixed in with the kible. I usually store my food in a plastic pet food container; as I poured it out into it, is when I noticed it was straight kibble pretty much with literally like 5 pieces of the freeze dried. The ratio is usually pretty close but this was ridiculous. My dog didn't eat well and I ended up having to get a smaller bag and mixing it in with this new bag of food I purchased. Wasn't thrilled considering I couldn't find the large bag at most places and it's not cheap either.
Good Mix of Freeze Dried with Kibble
I'm giving only a 4 for this food, as it was generally accepted by my dog, however she did have an upset stomach 3 different times in 3 weeks. I tried to transition slowly, but maybe I needed to take it even slower with this brand; I'm unsure. I'm transitioning to a 100% natural dog food shortly, and I Will take it very slow so her stomach doesn't get upset.
This is a great food selection. My dog Sunny loves!!!
whew....this dog food smells to high heaven....it is no wonder my fur baby won't eat it
Love Love Love !
Love this food! I know I can count on the quality of the food Merricks puts out. My dogs are so healthy on this food. All the years our whole family uses this food. I have never seen a recall and we live it is made and sourced from the US.
My dogs dont like it
Im sure its a good product, but my dogs thought i wanted to poison them. Im stuck with a bag of food they dont like.
Everyone comes running!
I use this food to fill treat dispensing balls for my dogs or as a topper. This food has a strong fish odor and when I open the bag both dogs and the cat come running. I appreciate that this comes in a grain inclusive recipe. I purchased the 10 lb bag and there are lots of raw chunks in the bag.
I have a super picky Samoyed that seems to enjoy this. She really likes the raw in it. She will pick all of those out of the bowl first before she eats the kibble but most importantly I noticed she is not itching as much. I had seen Merrick's food before but most of what I thought she would eat was grain free and our vet does not support a fully grain free diet for her so when I saw this....raw infused with healthier grains I talked to the vet and she agreed to make the switch from another brand she was on. She is still picky but seems a little less picky with this.
Dog likes it but my nose doesn’t
I received a small bag free for my dog to sample. I noticed right away that my dog was very interested in this new food from the moment I opened the bag. He went nuts and every time I gave it to him he went nuts! So that’s a good sign off the bat. The problem came the hours following meal time. He had the worse smelling gas after eating this food. That alone is reason for me not to buy this again for him. It seems like a good product and my dog still loved it but my nose did not. It could very well just be my dog though. The only other complaint I had was with resealing the bag or lack there of. Once you cut it open there’s no reseal so you pretty much have to put it into another container to keep fresh. For the price you’d think a resale option on the bag would be added.
