Metronidazole is formulated to help treat susceptible anaerobic bacterial infections, protozoa and other inflammatory conditions in the GI tract. This medication may also help resolve bacterial infections found in the mouth.
The most common side effects include loss of appetite, nausea, and vomiting. Other side effects may include weakness, blood in the urine, diarrhea, stumbling and head tilt. Liver disease is also possible but unlikely. Two serious adverse reactions reported in pets treated with metronidazole have been convulsive seizures and peripheral neuropathy, the latter characterized mainly by numbness or paresthesia of an extremity.
Discuss all other medications or supplements your pet is taking with your veterinarian before giving Metronidazole. Interactions are possible with anticoagulants, cimetidine, phenobarbital, phenytoin, and some sedatives/tranquilizers. Other drug interactions may occur.
This medication should not be given to pets who are pregnant or lactating. Pets who are debilitated or who suffer from liver disease should take Metronidazole with extreme caution.

This is an oral medication that helps to kill susceptible anaerobic bacteria and protozoa including Giardia. It also acts as an anti-inflammatory in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract so it can be helpful in the treatment of diarrhea as a result of multiple causes.
Use exactly as directed. Always follow the instructions your veterinarian gives you for your individual pet. If you have questions about how to use Metronidazole correctly, contact your veterinarian.
Susceptible anaerobic bacteria and certain protozoa are killed most likely as a result of inhibition of DNA synthesis within the affected organism. Metronidazole also works to reduce inflammation in the GI tract so it can be help in the treatment of diarrhea.
Your pets infection or condition should improve when you use Metronidazole as prescribed. Some conditions respond with a short course of treatment. Other more chronic conditions may require several weeks or more before they are resolved. If your pet seems to be worsening or is not improving after all required medication has been given, notify your veterinarian.
Quick and responsive when meds are needed
My two German Shepherds have sensitive stomachs, and soon as I see that their poop is like soft ice cream, I give them a pill every 12 hours. It works right away for them and stops the diarrhea!!! I have to keep this in stock in my medicine cabinet for that unexpected potty moment!
It is exactly what I ordered.
this product has worked very well for my little fox terrior dog who suffers from pankreatitis for over 2 years now. It takes about 4-5 days before you notice a difference but it has been a lifesaver for us
Vet recommended this med to help my dog with stomach issues. Chewy had the best price and within about a week of sending prescription, we had the med.
Recently, out of nowhere, my Lab woke up in the middle of the night and barely made it outdoors before he exploded with massive diarrhea. This continued all night, every couple of hours, and into the next day even once we started him on canned pumpkin and bland diet. I felt so bad for my boy. In the past my vet would always prescribe Tylan powder if he ever experienced sudden onset diarrhea. For some reason, this time they said the Metronidazole would be better (maybe because he's now almost 2, or perhaps this works faster). Anyway, we immediately started him on the recommended 1.5 pills, every 12 hours. The pills aren't huge so I was able to tuck them into a little cube of rolled dog food. Within 48 hours, so 4 doses total, he was 100% better even once I re-introduced his kibble. Firm poop, sleeping through the night again. We still have a few pills left over and I'm happy to have them on-hand in case he ever has a bout of belly issues again. This stuff works!
This is making all my dogs vomit and have been sick over and over. Do not buy this or give to dogs.
My cat has IBD and this has very much helped him with his bowels and vomiting.
Can these be purchased in 100mg? My dog needs 25mg a day.
I have an extremely old cat that has ibd - really bad diahera, low appetite. My vet prescribed me this medicine and my cat suffered from an acute stroke. Meaning, she had an adverse side effect from the medicine causing her to go partially blind. She was stumbling, walking into walls, could not "see" us when we were right in front of her. Absolutely terrifying. We know it was the medicine b/c it was given twice with the same results. Never happened again when we stopped. I don't write reviews, but I wanted to warn others. Please find an alternative and keep your loved ones safe.
