Great crate for the cost.
I have owned several of the Midwest crates and find them to be convenient, durable and long lasting except for the tray. However, when the tray needs replaced, you can get a replacement tray. I keep my dog’s crate right in my living room. This crate is safe for crating a pup while you are away for a few hours or for overnight sleeping. With my dog, it’s only used for when I have guests and need to confine him. I like that this crate has two doors so it can be more easily positioned in any area. And a bonus is that it’s strongly built and I can set some plants on top. It also is very easy to fold up if you need to take it with you. This size fits easily in my SUV when folded. One recommendation for using the crate with a pup is NOT to use a crate mattress with a pup. Give the pup an old blanket or a big towel instead. Otherwise you’ll most likely come home to a shredded mattress. When a pup is confined, they get bored. Give them safe things to chew on, like white bones or antler and remove the collar when you crate a pup.
Midwest, You Used to be Better Than This
Ordered two of these crates. Although the packaging was fine, one was bend and we needed to straighten it and the other had a broken clip (that holds the back wall to the roof). Not a fatal flaw as using a tie-wrap works well instead, but still very disappointing from a company that used to make some pretty good crates. I do like the two doors.
Sharp Edges
Okay... Chewy has been my go-to for years but recently I'm not so sure they're selling good products any more. This crate was purchased for my 60lb dog who just had TPLO surgery. I received it a couple of weeks ago and just set it up so my dog will be safe while I am out of the room and just putting his bed in, I got cut twice on sharp edges. This is not safe to use for him. I'm super disappointed in multiple recent purchases. I just don't understand what's going on with Chewy- they used to have great, reliable products.
Ultima Pro
This crate is solid, a very durable wire crate. Love the dual door! I would give this a 5 star rating but the side door does not lay entirely flush at the top, I believe this is a manufacturer error, that not all crates are made this way. There is a small gap that could allow a head (no pun intended) start for the dog to push it open. This crate is heavy! Also why we are not exchanging it for another, already threw box out. I would highly recommend this crate if you have an escape artist or just comfort in knowing your dog will not easily bend wire. Years ago we had a dog that was notorious for bending the bottom wires with his teeth.
Tough, GREAT Quality
Thank you so much Chewy!!!! This crate was beyond exceptional, insanely worth the price and is super well made. The bars are thicker than our regular “large” sized crate, and it ten times as huge—our 5 month of Pitsky mix (Husky/Pit) who’s now 40lbs is now looking small again in this XL crate LOL. He loves it and can stretch out & sleepy comfy & safely in this.
Poor Tray Construction
The crate appears to be very sturdy. However the tray is another matter. Our dog has been in it for less than a week. I noticed a crack at one end of the tray. It corresponds to a seam that appears to have been stamped into the tray. The tray is cheaply made. I don’t expect it to last long. Very disappointing.
Not the greatest
A piece was broken off and the door was misaligned, so I had to push down on it to latch one of the doors. Not the greatest.
Its just OK.
Relatively quick shipping. The 42” crate is HEAVY! It comes with handles, but it’s not what I’d call easily portable. Luckily, I plan to just leave to in one place. Before I purchased, I read a ton of reviews noting MidWest is no longer maintaining the same level of high quality as years past, and I have to agree. However, I also didn’t see any new comparable alternatives at this price point that have any better reviews, so I rolled the dice and ordered it anyway. It did come out of the box with one of the hooks broken, but the crate still holds together for now, even without it. I have my fingers crossed that our rescue doesn’t have severe separation anxiety. This crate probably wouldn’t hold up to a dog in a panic-attack state. This crate is “good enough” for now.

Dimensions Not as described
The dimensions on the actual box are: 49.125 L x 30.5 W x 34.25 H in. not at all what is listed in the description online 48x30x35. And the side door/door on the length side is wobbly and leaves a space that’s about an inch wide. It’ll do for now, though may end up returning. Not what I expected.
