What keeps the seeds from falling out of the holes?

Answer by ChewyOct 27, 2023
Seed stays in the tube feeder because there is enough friction to keep seed in place. In addition, we recommend black oil sunflower seeds or a seed mix with a high concentration of the black oil sunflower seed to prevent the seed spilling out and attract a large variety of birds.

I was trying to avoid buying another Brome Squirrel Buster as they're pretty expensive, but wanted to have another like bird feeder in another area of my yard. The price of this one sucked me in and I didn't care if it was hard or tricky to open the top per other reviews. However, after several days of this out in my yard, the seed was not emptying and I was not seeing any birds on it. After watching and inspecting, I realized the distance from the very outside opening to the seed was further than my other feeder. The inside openings to the seed was also narrow (top to bottom). It seems to me they would need to turn their heads completely sideways and shove them far into the hole to get to the seed. I'm in Southern California and mostly attract finches, sparrows, and tanagers. Besides this major flaw, the plastic tube is made of thin material, feeling flimsy and the top was difficult to operate. Again, wouldn't mind that if my delightful backyard friends could feast. Chewy was very understanding and refunded my money. Thank you Chewy for standing behind your customers!

The birds like it!

Chewy had this marked down to $20, an amazing deal. It's so big, I only filled it halfway the first time. I've seen chickadees, nuthatches, and song sparrows feeding at it. The bigger birds and the squirrels are frustrated by it.

Holds alot of seed

Unfortunately the seed sits back too far from the edge of the feeder for the sparrows and finches to reach.

I like it but am having problems opening top to put bird seed in. Will have to wait until my daughter comes over.

Holds a lot and doesn't need to be filled often.

It seems to last over a week when full but sometimes the inside gets turned and the birds can't get any food.

Bird Feeder

The construction of this bird feeder is outstanding. However, I had difficulty putting the lid back on the feeder. It is very tricky.

Been searching for squirrel proof bird feeder and have tried several unsuccessfully, add this one to the list. I had hope but was missing pieces of plastic for 2 ports so the bird seed just slides by but even if it had the missing 2 ports the seed would slide by. Also the roof is difficult to lock, it says counter clockwise to unlock, so thinking clockwise to lock doesn’t work, just keeps spinning. I wouldn’t or shouldn’t have bought it. So back to searching for that elusive squirrel proof bird feeder!
