Is this food considered raw or is it cooked?

Answer by ChewyJan 09, 2025

This works as a treat , I have a small jar of them on my kitchen counter, and as a meal either dry or rehydrated with venison bone broth The ingredients are as healthy and high-quality as you can get and if you use it as a treat, you know that they’re actually getting a fully balanced food I plan on trying some of the other protein/flavors with my babies

I really wanted these to work because they smell pretty good!!! Unfortunately though, the pieces are a little big and a bit tough for the cats to chew on. However, if you have a cat who is a cheer, this could be good for them. Maybe there are instructions on how to rehydrate? The dogs loved them as chewy ocasional snacks, so at least they were consumed!

To big for cats

The pieces are 2 inches long and larger then large breed dog food, this is clearly not made for cats.

This makes a good crunchy topper, but it’s not for every cat. My older cats (former ferals) are able to eat this no problem. They used to hunt their own prey outside, are used to chewing on meat and bones and have built up their jaw strength. The pieces are harder than freeze-dried treats, but not too hard for them to handle. I can easily break a piece apart into smaller pieces with my fingers if needed, no tools required. The long cylindrical shape is also appropriate for a cat to chew on without being a choking hazard. On the other hand, my younger cat who grew up indoors only have trouble eating this food. She grew up on softer commercial foods like pate and shreds. She does get some crunchy treats but they are on the softer side like freeze-dried treats and Ziwi air dried. The Meow air dried food is too hard for her to handle. She would have to build up her jaw strength to be able to eat this.

Very Good Food

Our three cats really enjoyed it. However, that being said I wish it was in smaller pieces.

My cats like these but as other reviews say, they are very large, hard pieces. These are closer to a freeze dried food, similar to Vital Essentials but MUCH bigger, than air dried food like Ziwi and Zeal. My cats have no issues eating whole freeze dried minnows, half a freeze dried chicken heart, vital essentials freeze dried mini nibs, or Ziwi and Zeal air dried food. They tried, and failed, to eat these in their normal state. I ended up breaking them into smaller bits and even then they struggled. Since they like the taste of them, I'll work through breaking up this bag but won't order again. I would only recommend these if your cat can handle large pieces of dry food or you are willing to break them up.

There are not a lot of options when it comes to air dried cat food. Many are in such a quantity as to only make it valuable as a treat not as a daily part of the diet. However, the chunks in this are sometimes larger than 1 inch. And I have to cut nearly a hundred percent of the chunks into something smaller that the cats can eat. I will be using smaller alternative ZIWI peak air dried food.

I got this after buying the Meow freeze dried Venison to see how different it was...and boy was I in for a surprise. The pieces are huge, like sausage links that have been cut in half (see photo - nearly 1 1/2" long). Unfortunately, unlike the freeze dried which is easy to break apart or hydrate in hot water, this stuff is like very hard dried out jerky and requires a sharp knife to cut it up into small enough pieces that QTee could even think about eating it. Trying to hydrate it is futile - it will just sit in water and never soak it up or get softer. I would only recommend this food if you have a large cat with a full set of sharp teeth who is an aggressive eater. It is definitely not suitable for a geriatric 5# cat with only half her teeth.
