What makes the cable "squirrel proof" and is it really? I can't tell by the pictures provided.

The cable is made of steel, which typically squirrels cannot chew through.

how do you remove the seed tray/perch>?

There are 2 screws on the bottom of the feeder. Once those are removed, the bottom will come off.

This is so cute, and generously sized so you don't have to fill it every single day. It is plastic, however, and easily breaks if some critter other than a bird

This is so cute, and generously sized so you don't have to fill it every single day. It is plastic, however, and easily breaks if some critter other than a bird jumps on it. The clips holding the bottom platform are particularly fragile, and once they break the whole thing is useless. Perhaps better suited to city life.

Nice sturdy feeder. Comes ready to use

Birds took this feeder right away. I did find that a small funnel is best way to put seed in.

Tough

This brand makes pretty tough bird houses. I have a few of them and they last. I have seen squirrels and raccoons both hanging off them. Chewy has the best service

The cabin is great looking and is large. The first one shipped had a broken foot tab that holds the bottom on. Customer service was A+ and sent another. When I went to refill the bird feeders again, I noticed one of the foot tabs was broken again. Not sure if it was the crows or squirrels but it did not last more than a month.
