Transition Instructions
When first introducing your pet to Nulo, we recommend slowly transitioning over the course of 5 to 7 days to reduce the risk of digestive upset that can occur with a rapid change in diet. We recommend portioning 25% of the new food on the first day mixed with 75% of the former food. Over the course of several days, gradually increase this ratio until you are feeding 100% of the new food. This will allow your pet's digestive system time to adjust to any new ingredients and will help to ensure a smooth transition. Mixing up proteins can be a great way to provide variety to your pet's diet. Once your pet has transitioned to the Nulo platform, rotating between recipes is generally seamless!
These protein-rich diets have proteins from animal sources as the first 3-4 ingredients. Low-carb and low-glycemic ingredients provide stable energy levels, while the proprietary GanedenBC30 probiotic aids digestive and immune health. Plus, they’re made without pea protein, white potatoes, corn, tapioca, wheat or soy.
Raising the Bar on What’s in Their Bowl
From their careful selection of ingredients—like protein-rich turkey, lamb, salmon, chicken, beef and duck—to low-glycemic carb source choices like lentils, chickpeas, barley, oat, millet and sweet potatoes, Nulo approaches pet food the way they approach everything—no shortcuts allowed.

This food is for large breed puppies but does it contain glucosamine like the other large breed puppy foods?
Answer by • Dec 16, 2021
Glucosamine and chondroitin are supplements that have been shown to be beneficial for adult dogs who need extra support for hip and joints, which can degenerate over the lifetime of the dog. Glucosamine and chondroitin supplementation in puppy foods is not accepted by certain state feed control regulations, so for pet foods which are distributed nationally (and internationally!) like Nulo, these supplements would not be permitted. However, Nulo certainly formulates their Large Breed Puppy recipes with joint support in mind! Avoiding rapid growth ensures proper bone and joint development, so they chose to lower the fat and calorie level of the Large Breed Puppy recipes to encourage slower growth.
Is the salmon in this puppy food wild caught or farm raised?
Answer by • Sep 27, 2021
Nulo uses wild-caught salmon from both Pacific and Atlantic waters (regions can vary based on the migratory path of the wild population), and includes a variety of species: Chinook (King), Chum (Keta), Humpy (Pink), Sockeye (Red), Coho (Silver), and Alaskan. As part of an intensive quality control program, their fish ingredients are tested for potential contaminants including heavy metals like mercury, to ensure that they are safe. They also require that fish is sourced naturally-preserved without the use of ethoxyquin. A certificate of analysis (COA) is required to accompany every ingredient upon arrival to the pet food kitchen to ensure that it meets their strict requirements for nutrient and microbiological analysis before being used in their products.
Is there DHA in This.
Answer by • Aug 11, 2022
This recipe does contain DHA from the salmon.
Are all the ingredients from the USA?
Answer by • Jul 19, 2021
The meat, poultry, and fish are sourced from the United States and Canada, with the exception of some of our duck (France), lamb (Australia & New Zealand), and wild-caught fish (regions can vary based on the migratory path of the wild population). Our fruits, vegetables, ancient grains, vitamins, and minerals are sourced in North America as well as regions throughout the world, but are always traced and required to meet strict safety and quality standards.
My 9 month old puppy loves this food. Couldn’t get her to eat much of other brands and flavors. Just wish cheaper.

Struggled with multiple foods, including Rx, but nothing worked until we found Nulo. Highly recommend!

Didn't Work For Our Two Boxer Puppies
I had high hopes for this food after reading the reviews. Unfortunately, neither one of our boxer puppies like it. They take forever to eat a bowl of it. To top it off, they have both had diarrhea since starting the gradual switch to this food. It is the only thing that has changed. After 4 days of trying to make the switch, I am calling it quits. I ordered a different brand of food to try from Chewy. I am hoping that one works for them.

Sour smell
I tried to switch my dog over to this food as it was recommended for his size and age. However he refused to eat it. Wont even take a kibble out of my hand. Once I got him to eat it (covered it in yummy stuff) he threw up almost every meal even when only 1/4 cup was used. After examining the bag and smelling the food inside it has a very sour smell so I think it might be rancid!

Neither good nor bad, just so-so. More poops due to grain-free formula

husky/pit approved
My puppy is a picky eater but she likes this food. She was initially on a chicken based kibble but had a lot of dandruff and itchy skin. I switched her to this salmon and turkey Nulo and she is no longer itchy and her coat is so shiny and smooth!

Quality Kibble for Large/XL breeds
After picking-up our large/XL breed puppy out of our home state, we happen to stumble upon this dog food at a local store in the breeder’s home state. It was a happy find as we were not pleased with a previous brand that was recommended for our other large breed dog by our vet. Our puppy loves this food. His coat is shiny and healthy looking. He doesn’t seem to have any issues and it isn’t crumbling like the previous brand. We will be sticking with this brand and the freestyle variety going forward. We are happy that Chewy carries this brand as it isn’t available locally and the autoship option makes the purchasing super easy.

Great for large puppies
I have a large/giant breed pup who used to be, and still is sometime, pesky. He likes this food. It is good quality for a good price.

Good for pup
My dog has always liked this brand. The different flavors are good and he doesn't hesitate when we switch them up.
