Cosequin is a patented, scientifically researched nutritional supplement dispensed by thousands of veterinarians to help dogs maintain healthy joints. As dogs age, it is common for their joints to become less flexible which impacts their mobility and quality of life. You may have noticed that your dog has difficulty walking up stairs or jumping on the bed. While he used to be eager to play, now he is content to rest. Even at younger ages some dogs are subject to joint health concerns which affect flexibility and mobility. Cosequin contains TRH122' chondroitin sulfate, FCHG49' glucosamine and manganese ascorbate. These ingredients have been scientifically formulated to support and maintain the health of your dog's joints. Published studies have shown that the specific combination of ingredients in Cosequin works together to maintain the structure of the cartilage in your dog's joints while inhibiting the enzymes that break down cartilage. It is very important to note that the published studies on Cosequin do not apply to other brands.
Early action is always the best advice. Different breeds of dogs age at different rates. With regular check - ups your veterinarian can talk with you about your dog's aging process. Your veterinarian may discuss weight control, selective use of medications, exercise and the administration of Cosequin. It is important to have your dog examined by your veterinarian if you notice the dog having difficulties climbing stairs, jumping into the car, going for walks or even getting up. Your veterinarian can advise you if Cosequin can help. Your veterinarian may also suggest using Cosequin as a protective measure. This can be important for maintaining an active life for many dogs, especially large breeds and working dogs of all sizes. Cosequin may also be used to help support cartilage following joint surgery.
Observe your dog closely, and notice whether he seems more comfortable performing everyday activities such as climbing up stairs, going for walks, or even getting up. Most people will observe gradual changes in their dog's comfort level. In a published survey of over 3,000 veterinarians, over 80% of dogs administered Cosequin improved significantly in their mobility, level of comfort, and attitude. Overall, the veterinarians rated Cosequin as good to excellent.
Since Cosequin is a supplement and provides nutrients to maintain your dog's joint health, it works more gradually than drugs. Improvement on Cosequin can range from gradual to dramatic. Following the administration schedule on the label for your dog's weight, we recommend an initial administration period of 4 - 6 weeks. Some dogs may show a response in a shorter period of time.
Research in dogs administered Cosequin has shown that if Cosequin is given prior to an injury, the animal returns to normal function much more quickly. In light of this research, Cosequin is recommended to protect cartilage in dogs that are overweight, working breeds, and large breeds, as well as the average ""weekend warrior"". In order to gain the protective benefits of Cosequin in healthy animals, a low level of Cosequin may be used. The level for these pets varies, but the suggested maintenance level given every other day may be adequate.
A safety study in dogs demonstrated no adverse effects of Cosequin administration on blood work parameters, including complete blood count, biochemical, and clotting values. Some dogs may experience a mild gastrointestinal upset such as that which occurs when switching foods. If this is the case, you can try offering Cosequin with a meal.
Exercise is important for optimal joint function as well as weight control for the overall health of your pet. Joint movement is needed to circulate fluid around the cartilage as well as to bring nutrients and to remove waste products. It has been shown that when joints are immobilized, cartilage structures break down at a rapid rate. Consult with your veterinarian, but in most cases, moderate exercise is recommended. Walking on sand or another soft surface or even swimming will help circulate needed nutrients and reduce excessive stress to the cartilage. It is important not to push your pet but to exercise at a comfortable pace.
Most commercial pet foods include baseline vitamins and nutrients, but some may not have the adequate amount to suit your pet's exact health needs. Like in humans, vitamins and supplements can help support your pet's long-term health, regulating everything from digestion to muscle growth. Consult your veterinarian to determine the best vitamins and supplements for your furry friend.
It is recommended to give the suggested dosage based off your pet's weight. Please refer to the Feeding Instructions tab and consult with your veterinarian for more information.

I will swear but this product to anyone with a senior dog or a dog with any joint issues such as stiffness, limping after exercise, etc. My blue heeler started having issues with his back leg as he got older and vets told me it was probably tweaked at a young age. As he got older, any sort of exercise or strenuous activity would cause him to limp all next day and be stiff getting up. After starting him on these years ago, he has limped maybe twice in the past 3 years. He is now 10 and you’d never know it. These do take a month or so to actually see drastic improvement but I promise, it’s worth it. My other dog whose 3 legged also gets these as a preventative measure and she’s faster than most dogs she meets.
We have an 8 year old English bulldog who started exhibiting signs of some arthritis and age. Favoring his back leg, stiff when he would get up from laying down, wouldn't jump on the couch and wouldn't play with our 2 year old Aussie. We started giving him these chews and while it took a few weeks (as stated on the package), he was back to his old self!! Running in the yard (short sprints), playing with the Aussie, he's no longer stiff and just seems more youthful than he was before this supplement.
I tried to dip them in Peanut butter and the first couple days he finically ate them. About the 3rd day, he turned his nose in the air and walked away. I tried putting it in his food and he ate around it. Now I’m stuck with a big bag. I’ll try to give them to my neighbors dog to see if she’ll eat them.
My dog turns 8 this month and has begun having problems with his knees. Our vet recommended we try Cosequin, but cautioned it would take a while to build up in his system and help. We've just begun, but so far I'm impressed. Rocket thinks they're tasty treats and takes them with no argument. I think they're going to really help.
Parlay is a fan of these. Though she I throw them down with other treats, she will eat them last, I am not sure if that is a good or bad thing, but she likes them and that's all that matters. Not sure if they work yet, so I will have to give an update next month.
We got these for our golden retriever now approaching seniority. We noticed he was stiff when getting up and seemed to be slowing down. We bought these Cosequin treats and not only does he love them, he feels young again! After have 1 a day for 2 weeks, he is far more frisky than he has been in years. It's very clear to us that he feels better and these chews really did the trick. WORTH THE PRICE, YOUR OL' DOG WILL FEEL LIKE A PUP AGAIN!
I have a 7 year old Olde English Bulldogge who I thought could benefit from these for the Glucosamine, MSM and Omega-3's for his joints but unfortunately I couldn't even get my dog to try not even one of these soft chews. He would sniff them in disgust and walk away. I would even leave them in his food bowl and he would eat around them. The only other food my dog has turned down in his 7 years is celery, so I know it's not him being picky.
I love Cosequin for my senior dogs. The older is a Chihuahua mix who is almost 16 years old and was having mobility issues. After a very short time, I could see how Cosequin was helping him and putting him a little pep in his step. Last Fall I rescued a 7-year-old Shih Tzu. She gets Cosequin, too.
I bought this product for my eight year old German Shepard Dog. She is starting to get up a little slower and I want to do everything I can to keep her senior years as pain free as possible. She likes the taste of them (and she is a very picky eater). We just started them so I can not tell how much they are helping her.
I have a 9 year old mini Aussie/Heeler that was walking slower & having a hard time getting up the steps to bed. I started Cosequin & she has greatly improved. She walks better, actually runs outside & climbs the stairs herself again.!!
