Cosequin is a patented, scientifically researched nutritional supplement dispensed by thousands of veterinarians to help dogs maintain healthy joints. As dogs age, it is common for their joints to become less flexible which impacts their mobility and quality of life. You may have noticed that your dog has difficulty walking up stairs or jumping on the bed. While he used to be eager to play, now he is content to rest. Even at younger ages some dogs are subject to joint health concerns which affect flexibility and mobility. Cosequin contains TRH122' chondroitin sulfate, FCHG49' glucosamine and manganese ascorbate. These ingredients have been scientifically formulated to support and maintain the health of your dog's joints. Published studies have shown that the specific combination of ingredients in Cosequin works together to maintain the structure of the cartilage in your dog's joints while inhibiting the enzymes that break down cartilage. It is very important to note that the published studies on Cosequin do not apply to other brands.
Early action is always the best advice. Different breeds of dogs age at different rates. With regular check - ups your veterinarian can talk with you about your dog's aging process. Your veterinarian may discuss weight control, selective use of medications, exercise and the administration of Cosequin. It is important to have your dog examined by your veterinarian if you notice the dog having difficulties climbing stairs, jumping into the car, going for walks or even getting up. Your veterinarian can advise you if Cosequin can help. Your veterinarian may also suggest using Cosequin as a protective measure. This can be important for maintaining an active life for many dogs, especially large breeds and working dogs of all sizes. Cosequin may also be used to help support cartilage following joint surgery.
Observe your dog closely, and notice whether he seems more comfortable performing everyday activities such as climbing up stairs, going for walks, or even getting up. Most people will observe gradual changes in their dog's comfort level. In a published survey of over 3,000 veterinarians, over 80% of dogs administered Cosequin improved significantly in their mobility, level of comfort, and attitude. Overall, the veterinarians rated Cosequin as good to excellent.
Since Cosequin is a supplement and provides nutrients to maintain your dog's joint health, it works more gradually than drugs. Improvement on Cosequin can range from gradual to dramatic. Following the administration schedule on the label for your dog's weight, we recommend an initial administration period of 4 - 6 weeks. Some dogs may show a response in a shorter period of time.
Research in dogs administered Cosequin has shown that if Cosequin is given prior to an injury, the animal returns to normal function much more quickly. In light of this research, Cosequin is recommended to protect cartilage in dogs that are overweight, working breeds, and large breeds, as well as the average ""weekend warrior"". In order to gain the protective benefits of Cosequin in healthy animals, a low level of Cosequin may be used. The level for these pets varies, but the suggested maintenance level given every other day may be adequate.
A safety study in dogs demonstrated no adverse effects of Cosequin administration on blood work parameters, including complete blood count, biochemical, and clotting values. Some dogs may experience a mild gastrointestinal upset such as that which occurs when switching foods. If this is the case, you can try offering Cosequin with a meal.
Exercise is important for optimal joint function as well as weight control for the overall health of your pet. Joint movement is needed to circulate fluid around the cartilage as well as to bring nutrients and to remove waste products. It has been shown that when joints are immobilized, cartilage structures break down at a rapid rate. Consult with your veterinarian, but in most cases, moderate exercise is recommended. Walking on sand or another soft surface or even swimming will help circulate needed nutrients and reduce excessive stress to the cartilage. It is important not to push your pet but to exercise at a comfortable pace.
Most commercial pet foods include baseline vitamins and nutrients, but some may not have the adequate amount to suit your pet's exact health needs. Like in humans, vitamins and supplements can help support your pet's long-term health, regulating everything from digestion to muscle growth. Consult your veterinarian to determine the best vitamins and supplements for your furry friend.
It is recommended to give the suggested dosage based off your pet's weight. Please refer to the Feeding Instructions tab and consult with your veterinarian for more information.

My lab is getting older and my vet prescribed a product that is a bit expensive every month, so I saw this on Chewy (my one stop shop for my dogs) and thought I'd try it instead. He's done extremely well on these. Twice a day, loves the flavor and definitely helps his sore legs. That's what's most important. I want him to be comfortable as he ages. He has 2 young pups in the house now (16 months and 4 months) and he tries to keep up with them, but his hips do bother him. I've definitely noticed a difference while giving him this product for the past 4 months.
We recently got these as a supplement when the ones my vet were prescribing ran out. I hadn’t noticed much change and was looking for something better. We have two dogs, one a corgi and one an Australian Kelpie mixed with corgi. The Kelpie Corgi is 8 years old, and had to have surgery on her knee socket at only 18 months old. She has had joint issues and we knew this would be an issue for her long term. She’s slowed down in the last couple of years and is prone to limping and lumbering around when she overexerts herself. This has turned her around so quickly. She’s been on these for almost two weeks and suddenly the puppy energy is back. She can play fetch and not limp around for a whole day. She wrestles with our corgi. She’s got her attitude back. She gets the zoomies daily. I am just so thrilled to see the result and as long as they keep working we will not buy anything but these again.
I ordered this after a friend gave me a sample bag to try. My 8 year old mini golden doodle had really slowed down. Between having Lyme disease and the aging process, Stuart seemed to lumber around. I started him on two of these a day, and in about 2 weeks, he’s acting like a puppy. I’s unbelievable. He loves the taste, so we use them as treats. When we’re out for a walk, it’s all I can do to keep up with him. And toysare strung allover the floor now. I love that he’s feeling better, but I feel like I’ve got a puppy to deal with all over again. All jokes aside, .it’s a blessing, but be prepared. We’ll never stop using these.
My dogs love both the Nutramax & the chewy Milk Bone treats. But... Both of my dogs are 60 pounds plus. That means 3 @ day for 4 to 6 weeks. It's costing a lot just to get them to the 1 or 2 @ day point. I may need to try something else.
My dogs don’t care for this product, it does stink with a hint of a chemical smell. I usually get Dasaquin as I’ve seen amazing results from it. I haven’t had long enough to judge effectiveness and due to the dogs not caring for the smell I’m not sure I’ll get through it. As all glucosamine products 30/60/90 days to begin to see results. My remendation is Nutramx product Dasaquin.
I noticed every time I gave my golden retriever one of these treats, he had severe diarrhea after. He’s almost 5 years old and hadn’t had an accident indoors since before he was potty trained (a couple months old). After giving him one of these then going to work the next day, we returned to a huge mess on the ground that we’re still paying for and cleaning up a week later. I will be requesting a refund / returning these since I don’t know anyone who wants them that I could give them to.
We had attempted several tries to give one of these to our senior bully. Out of the handful of times he only had one. He just didn’t like the flavor at all even if we covered it with another one of his favorite foods. It turned out being a waste of money
I was using another product for a couple of years, but she got tired of the taste of them and didn't seem to be working as well, and talked to our vet as he and all of his technicians use them on their dogs and he highly recommends them as they use them by the American Kennel Club and National Dog shows. I have seen a real difference in her movement and jumping up and down on the couch as she is only 7 but as a maintenance dose as it will help prevent arthritis especially in Pitbulls and German Shephards! They have a strong smell, but she seems to love them and eats them right out of my hand!!
So far so good with the product vet recommended a little pricey for the amount but worth it. My dog got hit by a car and has arthritis and a dislocated hip and he’s able to walk around without pain but I can tell for the most part I’m glad that the ingredients are written right on it of what is needed for him. Definitely would recommend this product
sorry but my dogs did not like this .. one dog won't touch it. the other finally said i don't like it. I was wanting to send it back. maybe trade for the tablets. my dog likes that .
