I chose this food for my two active hounds. I like the calcium and phosphorus, which are lower, which is rare to find in a food like this. I like the higher fat for my dogs, however, after a slow transition over two weeks it is was clear one of my dogs could not tolerate the higher fat level. One tolerates it well, the other was uncharacteristically vomiting about once a day for several days in a row. That dog was switched to something else with all lower fat and the issue immediately resolved. The other dog is eating out the bags I purchased and doing well. Just something to note if you have a fat sensitive dog, this may be too much. One thing to note: this dog was previously on another brand 30/20 feed and did not have a vomiting issue.

I have a dog rescue & part of that involves receiving dogs that are in very poor physical condition. Enter, Larj, a Bouvier that I picked up 3 wks ago. He had been on his own for a while & was very emaciated. At about the same time I received a 50# bag of Nutrena True High Energy & decided to see if it would help this boy! We are now 3 wks out & Larj is looking fantastic! While he still has a ways to go, I couldn't be happier with his progress. He has gained nearly 20# in 3 wks, ribs are no longer visible, protruding hip bones are flush, & he is showing a nice energy level. We do love Nutrena dog kibble as well as many other Nutrena Feed Products!

Chicken only by-product and a lot of grain

My dogs took really well to this High Energy dog food. One of my dogs is already high energy, so this helped him maintain that energy, while my other dog normally

My dogs took really well to this High Energy dog food. One of my dogs is already high energy, so this helped him maintain that energy, while my other dog normally doesn't have much energy and this seemed to give him a bit more pep in his step. My older dog has been playing a bit more than usual. Even though we haven't been using this dog food for too long, I don't know if it's a happy coincidence or the real deal. I found this to be a really great value for what you're getting. I'm not a big fan of the fact that it's only chicken by-product meal and I couldn't find anywhere that said if it was human grade or not. Human grade is better quality, and I may have given it 5 stars if I could tell what grade this is. There were a lot of grain ingredients at the top of the list as well. But if you're looking for a better quality dog food than your traditional kibble dog food, this is a good alternative and very affordable for how much you're getting.

This is a mixed review. I gave my to very spoiled Bullies, True High Energy dry food. They would eat a couple bites and then walk away. They liked it but not enough

This is a mixed review. I gave my to very spoiled Bullies, True High Energy dry food. They would eat a couple bites and then walk away. They liked it but not enough to eat a measurable quantity. It appears that change is not happening with them. And it would take ever for them to eat the 50lb bag that was sent to me. I called a friend and asked him if he would want the food. The answer was YES. He has several dogs (more than four) that he rescued, one being a 120lb Great Pyrenees. His dogs loved the food, especially the Pyrenees, more energy to guard the smaller animals. I'm glad I was able to share the food with him and his dogs. Would recommend for working dogs.

Savory & meaty smelling, the senior dogs enjoyed it, my dogs are small, And need softer abd smaller kibble these days. This kibble is high in nutrition and not too hard on their teeth. It smells savory which draws them to try it, and their both notoriously picky so it was a surprise that they indeed ate this dry kibble! I left it pit for them to graze on and they have finished several bowls of it. I like the freshness of the food, you can tell its quality.

I chose the Nutrena True High Energy as a option to transition our Rottweiler pup from Nutrena Puppy Large Breed to an adult diet. It is going very well and we are very pleased with how gentle it has been on her GI tract. We had tried another option; same transition steps and timeframe with not so good results. The other food definitely did not agree with her. We were so happy to have found an option made by Nutrena that has worked for our Onyx pup. We started with 1:3 ratio and are at 2:4 ratio. I do also like the size of the kibble, it not being so Large as some other large breed foods we have used in the past. No icky smell or the pieces looking and/ or feeling oily like in texture.

Decent mid-tier dog food

The Nutrena food is very affordable and that's a plus for households with large or multiple dogs. It's extremely calorie dense, which is a plus for working dogs

The Nutrena food is very affordable and that's a plus for households with large or multiple dogs. It's extremely calorie dense, which is a plus for working dogs or those who need extra caloric content due to aging. The kibble is palatable and our dogs ate it eagerly. My issue is with the ingredient list. For one, there's no fresh animal protein (only by-product meal). Two of the first three ingredients are grain, meaning the diet is very carb dense. The inclusion of soybean meal is probably why the crude protein is listed so high but unfortunately soy isn't digested as efficiently as meat, so the actual nutritional value of that ingredient isn't as solid as it sounds. This is certainly not the worst food out there - it'll serve you better than Kibbles N Bits or Gravy Train - but it's not necessarily the ideal formula for a carnivore species.

My eldest dog is quite picky and usually requires sneaky transitions to new food, and much to my surprise, he didn't react to this one getting snuck into his food. My other pup will guzzle down anything and happily ate this up. My eldest dog has extensive dental damage and needs his food to be wet or rehydrated, and this stuff took water better than I expected. I wasn't expecting it to soak water the best because the kibble itself was quite greasy. Dumping some of the bag into an airtight plastic bin was a sensory nightmare for me - but overall, that's not something I'll need to do all that often so its a minor issue that's easily looked over.

My dog weighs 105 pounds, and when I discovered this food and checked out the ingredients, I knew it was the perfect match. He's currently 6 years old and will turn 7 in July. He needed something to boost his energy so we could get back to playing fetch outside like we used to. I've noticed other positive changes too: he has a silky, smooth, shiny coat now. This food provides the nutrients he was lacking, and I'm so grateful to have a young, vigorous boy once again.
