Our Cat Food Odyssey

The dry food we had been feeding our 4 indoor cats, ONLY NATURAL PET POWERFOOD POULTRY INDOOR CAT DINNER, was discontinued, so we recently embarked on a months-long search for a new food that everyone would enthusiastically eat (no easy feat!). We ordered small bags of the following 3 brands to start: Nutro Wholesome Essentials Adult Chicken & Brown Rice Recipe, which only 1 would eat; Natural Balance Original Ultra Indoor Chicken & Salmon Meal, which no one would eat; and Purina ONE Tender Selects Blend with Real Chicken, which everyone liked. Unfortunately, after transitioning them to the Purina ONE Tender Selects Blend with Real Chicken, our oldest kitty (12 yrs) developed continuous loose stools, which led us to question whether or not it was the healthiest of choices. So, we decided to try the following 2 brands: Blue Buffalo True Solutions Fab Feline Natural Indoor Cat Formula Adult, which everyone ate, but unenthusiastically; and SquarePet Squarely Natural Chicken & Brown Rice, which everyone ate, with a bit more fervor. We then transitioned them to the SquarePet Squarely Natural Chicken & Brown Rice for a while. But, for some reason, way too much food was being left in the bowls before they were empty, creating too much waste, so we decided to try 3 more brands: Hound & Gatos Grain-Free Cage Free Chicken Recipe, which no one would eat; Tender & True Chicken & Brown Rice Recipe, which only 2 would eat, but unenthusiastically; and Made by Nacho Bone Broth Infused Cage-Free Chicken & Pumpkin Recipe, which, HOORAY, they all really like!!! The only drawback is that it’s only offered in 4 lb. bags and is quite expensive. But, until we find another brand that they all equally enjoy and isn’t full of peas/legumes (the latest trend), corn products, or other undesirable ingredients, this will have to do for now and we’ll just have to cut corners elsewhere.

Best Ingredients

My cat hasn't yet decided to give up her other kibble, and apparently doesn't want it mixed with the Nutro Essentials. So, she has two bowls. I'm slowly reducing the amount in 'the other' and increasing the amount in the Nutro bowl. I'm looking forward to the time when she completely kicks the grain-heavy kibble!

Cats LOVE this food!

My cats are indoor mostly, outdoor sometimes cats and they love this Nutro Adult Cat Chicken & Brown Rice dry food. They often choose it over canned food. Their coats are super soft and super shiney.

My cats did not like the food

I followed protocol to introduce Nutro Chicken & Brown Rice Recipe to my three cats. At first the cats seemed to like the new kibble however after three days all three of the cats have refused to eat the Nutro kibble. One cat is 7 years old and the other two are 5 years old.

Wildyl Popular

The most recent cat I adopted had been raised on this, so I continued to feed him on it. My other two cats started to sample it out of curiosity, and discovered that they enjoy it as well. Further, the neighborhood cat that I've been feeding was offered some and he really likes it too. Cats range in age from less than two years to 14 years.
