A Healthier Clean Cat Litter

Leave old-school clay and chemicals in the dust. Made from sustainably sourced, responsibly rescued wood fiber, high-performing Okocat natural litter is relentless at controlling odor, with a fresh natural scent reminiscent of the great outdoors.

Wood Works Naturally

The precision-cut, clean wood fiber absorbs liquid on contact. This stops enzymes from bonding with liquid and waste to prevent ammonia and odor before they even begin. No harmful chemical binders, either—just solid clumps for easy scooping.

Questions & Answers

40 Customer Questions

Did Okocat recently change their formula? I'm used to it looking like tan color, but the last box I ordered, the litter was an orange color and was slightly smaller in texture.

Answer by ChewyDec 31, 2019
Okocat has been produced in Germany in the past, however recently they have built a domestic cat litter manufacturing plant at their Jesup, Georgia facility to produce the same litter. With the species of wood raw material being different in Germany versus Georgia, there are minor variabilities in color, scent, and appearance. The product specifications and performance attributes remain the same. Their domestic litter is made from local sustainably sourced Georgia softwoods – which include spruce, pine, and fir.

Is this septic safe ?

Answer by ChewyFeb 15, 2023
Okocat natural wood kitty litters are flushable and have been certified by SGS in accordance with ANSI standards (ASME A112.19.6. (JRS)) However, local limitations should be considered and flushing is not recommended if on a septic system. As well, the state of California has a referendum against flushing cat litter for protection of the sea lion population, since cat feces can harm sea lions.

Is there less dust?

Answer by ChewyJul 11, 2019
This wood-based litters produces little to no airborne dust.

Is this litter low tracking?

Answer by ChewyJan 06, 2021
This Original Premium Wood Clumping litter is not considered low tracking, however the Okocat Mini Pellets Unscented Clumping Wood Cat Litter is a great alternative option. The Mini Pellets Unscented Clumping Wood litter is made from soft, mini-pellets that are easy on paws, and less likely to stick to your cat's fur or track through the house.

Our recently-rescued Cat-in-Charge somehow managed to be, well, a stinky cat in the litter box, moreso than any we've had before. High-end lightweight clay litters, advertised to control odor for 2-3 weeks didn't make a dent in day one. But this stuff is amazing: it has all but completely eliminated her signature scents, and with a tiny bit of daily maintenance, has her room (and, well, she owns the entire house, too) blissfully not-smelling-like-a-litter-box. Just a tad more difficult to sift due to the relatively large pellets, but not enought to be a real problem. I never thought I'd sing the praises of cat litter, and I still can't carry a tune--but this is a litter worth singing for!

Seems fancy. I would rather sweep and vacuum up soft sawdust than sand, gritty clay or mica that scratches the bottom of the litter box. I spray a little wax on the bottom of my litter box so it is easy to remove and doesn’t stick. The litter just glides right off. I will say there is dust in the air so I do have electric air filters in my home to suck up the dust. It does come in regular, soft, extra soft to protect cat paws.

When I adopted my long haired cat I noticed regular clay litter would clump on his paws and between his toes. I worried that it was uncomfortable for him and could potentially irritate his skin. Also, he was tracking clumps of litter into the bed and on the couch. I tried a few different types of litter and found Okocat to be good at clumping in the box but wouldn't stick to the hairs on his feet in large chunks. It can get dusty, but if you change out the liter once a month this significantly helps. I find the dust is from repeated usage from the cat as it breaks down and leaves dust at the bottom. I also keep an air purifier next to the liter box which is helpful. A litter box is never going to look aesthetic but I find looking at the wood better than grey clay. It also has nice natural wood smell. It seems to track about the same as regular litter. I've been using Okocat for 5 years and will continue to buy it.

I've been using wood pellets for years, but I decided to try a clumping litter. This litter uses wood fibers so it was a perfect transition for my cat! Absolutely no oder, and the clumps are easily removed. The best part is no chemicals so I feel this is a safe option for my senior cat. I will definitely continuing purchasing this!

I’ll never use any other litter unless OKOCAT stops selling their litter. It clumps just right and covers the smell instantly. This litter has a fresh wooden smell and won’t hurt your kitties respiratory system. It’s easy to buy the perfume litters but PLEASE DO NOT! These odors can do more harm than good. This litter is just the best. I’ll never buy anything else. I’ve been a loyal customer since 2016 and haven’t looked back since!

I have used this litter for years but recently noticed a change. The litter is a darker grey color and doesn’t clump as well as it used to. The photo in my review is a mix of the old vs new of the same litter. Not sure why okocat changed it. Waiting to see how my cat reacts over the next few weeks before I decide whether to look at different options because he is already picky. He seems to be kicking it out of the box more since we have added the new stuff. However, it’s also less dusty thus far.

Worst litter ever

Don't use this. Don't even try it. It seems OK when you start out with it, but it turns into a nightmare. It smells disgusting. It tracks and scatters everywhere. The granules break down more and more into dust. But the real horror is this, the litter that tracks out of the box will turn into a sticky cement on your floors. It took me hours to scrape it up. I had to soak it with wet paper towels and use a steam cleaner. To top it all off, this litter also left a slimy substance in the boxes and on every surface where it collected. I have had cats for 4 decades and tried every type of litter out there. All litter has problems. It's one thing when the litter just doesn't clump well or doesn't smell good. But it's on a whole other level when you have to scrape hardened sticky litter cement out from under the baseboards with a toothbrush. Worst of all one of my cats was in a bad mood and kept glaring at me until I dumped this awful mess for good and switched to a different brand.

At this point I’ve tried all the different grain sizes of this brand, and this is my favorite. I was initially worried that it would be too hard on my cats paws but it’s nice and soft, they seem to really like it. I love that it’s low tracking, that’s been a lifesaver. However I will say it produces a fair amount of dust when cleaning it, I usually wear a facemask because I’m asthmatic. It doesn’t clump as well as other letters especially as the other granularity of this same brand when it comes to urine especially. The clients tend to break apart easily when trying to scoop them. However, for the low tracking, it’s a trade-off that I’m willing to make. I will probably be trying other brands of wood based litter going forward, but I would absolutely return to this one.

This is the most high tracking litter I’ve ever used. Even using litter rugs and mats, it gets everywhere. They even manage to take it up the stairs and onto the bed. Like a noticeable amount. The unscented pellets have a very strong wood odor, which reminds me of what hamster cages smell like. I was hoping for something a little more subtle. I don’t smell urine, but the cats won’t cover their poop with this, so any time they do that the entire house stinks. Finally, if your cat isn’t covering their pee, the pellets get saturated and turn into sticky goo/cement which makes it really hard to scrape from the bottom/sides of the litter box. The search continues.

But it wasn’t there as well. I don’t know if this package was stolen or went missing. I had to ask for the replacement.
