About ORIJEN Dry Dog Food

The Pinnacle of Nutrition

Dogs are ancestral carnivores, and they thrive on a biologically appropriate diet. ORIJEN provides optimal canine nutrition by using unsurpassed quantities of fresh or raw meat from a variety of Wholeprey animal protein sources.

85% Animal Ingredients

With 85% premium animal ingredients, each ORIJEN dog food recipe provides a strong source of essential protein, vitamins and minerals in their most nourishing forms. It’s a high-protein diet designed to feed your best friend’s carnivorous cravings. *Approximate and derived from the unprocessed state of the ingredients. **Animal protein

Nourish As Nature Intended

Fresh ingredients preserved solely through refrigeration and raw ingredients frozen at the peak of freshness stay true to their form. This minimalist approach preserves important nutrients and keeps closer to the diet your canine evolved to eat.

The first 5 ingredients are always fresh or raw animal sources, including nutrient-rich meat, poultry, whole fish, and organs.

ORIJEN recipes include meat, organs, and bone, so your dog can enjoy the most nutrient-dense and succulent parts of the prey.

With at least 15 fresh or raw ingredients in every recipe, ORIJEN kibble is the closest thing to feeding a raw diet.

Transitioning to ORIJEN

Acclimate your dog to a new ORIJEN diet by transitioning gradually from the old food you were feeding. Start by replacing 25% of the old diet with ORIJEN food, increasing the new food amount proportionally over the next 10-14 days. By the end of the second week, you should be feeding 100% ORIJEN.

ORIJEN makes foods to help pets thrive, so they can stay healthy and strong through all their days. Their Wholeprey approach means including the most nutrient-dense and delicious parts of the prey in their recipes, to deliver the complete nutrition cats and dogs evolved to eat. Help your best friend reach his fullest potential with a biologically appropriate diet from ORIJEN.

Approximately how many cups are in a bag?
Answer by ChewyJan 16, 2021
There is approximately 4 cups of kibble in every one pound of dry dog food. The 13-pound bag holds 52 cups and the 25-pound bag holds 100 cups.

What size is the kibble in Origen large puppy compared to arcana
Answer by ChewyAug 09, 2021
The ORIJEN Puppy Large Grain-Free Dry Puppy Food and the ACANA Puppy Recipe Grain-Free Dry Puppy Food are both approximately 1/2 an inch. However, the ORIJEN Puppy Large Dry Puppy Food is thicker kibble (similar to an M&M) and the ACANA Puppy Recipe is thinner kibble (similar to a dime). My dog just turned 1 year. Can I still feed him this? What is the maximum age this food is for?
Answer by ChewyJun 09, 2021
A puppy is generally considered an adult when they stop growing taller. Typically for small breeds this is between 9-12 months, medium breeds around 12 months and large breeds closer to 15 months. We always encourage reaching out to your vet for the best results for your little one.

Regarding the large puppy variety, at what temperature is the dry good extruded?
Answer by ChewyFeb 10, 2022
The extrusion process cooks ORIJEN ingredients gently in their own juices with steam to ensure maximum flavor potential. Because they use such a high quantity of fresh and raw ingredients, most are only cooked once. Their cooking process typically cooks at temperatures between 90-115 degrees Celsius. A lower temperature ensures that the nutritional integrity of the ingredients remains in the end product. All finished products are subjected to pathogen evaluation before release and shipment. No product is released for shipment until all tests for food safety and quality are confirmed to be favorable.

great food

5 dogs eating this food. Pup to young adults. The frenchie actually looks better than ever and has nearly stopped shedding. Her coat is shiny and healthy now. Large mastiff pup is well covered and doing fab. Doodles look great. Yorker enjoys munching on kibble.

Loves it with a little pumpkin purée

We adopted a mixed black mouth curr and started her on ORIJEN puppy immediately, she was inhaling and then vomiting. I came back and was doing some research and discovered the bigger cornels in the larger puppy food and it worked. We couldn’t mix her old food as she was a pound pup and wouldn’t allow purchase of the food they were feeding her. She did the dry food just fine. Then my son came over with his pup and he was giving wet food at night and our Bailey seemed jealous. I did some research and discovered pure pumpkin purée was good for dogs and a fiber add. Now at night she gets a cup of dried food with a 1/4-1/8 cup pumpkin baby food (only pumpkin no other ingredients) and she loves it. She feels she’s getting something special like the wet food the cats get but she’s really getting very healthy pumpkin lol. I feel she’ll have a longer healthier life with ORIJEN and her pumpkin. I do wish it was a little cheaper.

My puppy loves this food

Fast delivery! So far my puppy loves it! Molly is 9 weeks old and started eating dry food about three weeks ago. She is doing very well so far with no apparent digestive problems! Good stuff!

My GSD puppies hate it :(

My 11 months old GSD girls love the Amazing Grains formula and that's what I feed them. Last week I made a mistake and ordered the Grain-Free instead. Once I finally got it, yesterday afternoon, I immediately filled their bowl. Sadly, almost 24 hours later, the bowl is still full. The one-star is not my rating, I think the ingredients are great. But that's their rating, sorry :(

Rottie loves it!

We have fed this to our Rottie since she was 8 weeks old. We feed Orijen along with raw such as turkey necks and beef ribs. Her coat is always shiny and she looks amazing. We plan to keep feeding this along with raw.

wow I should have switched foods sooner

I started my now 7 month old German shepherd on Purina pro plan because I liked the mid range price and his vet recommended. He has always had diarrhea issues and itches more than a pup should. First thought it was a chicken intolerance so tried the pro plan sensitive skin and stomach. The big concern I had is my dog turned his nose away from his proplan food. He of course ate it eventually but he never was thrilled about it. I thought he was being a snob but Tonight I witnessed my gsd pick out the Purina pro plan pieces to eat orijen. I am without a doubt certain animals know what they need better than I. I think Purina has too many filler ingredients or the grains are just too much for him. Of course every animal is different and I wish mine was the kind that did great on the cheaper brand but he just isn’t. Worth every penny to have a food my dog enjoys and I have no doubt his digestive and skin issues will improve

Great Dog Food

My dog is a very picky eater and I have problems with her eating this from time to time. I have tried several foods to see if she would like anything else better and she refused to touch any of them. I am secretly happy, I think this is one of the best dog foods available.

Delivery issues

I have begged and pleaded, added delivery instructions that simply are not followed. Packages are being left on the NORTH side of my home where there is no door in front of my garage. I am seriously at my wits end.

My picky GSD puppy loves it!

My 4 month old GSD is a very picky eater. I had her on Purina one but she wouldn't eat it. Tried a few more foods with no success. She absolutely LOVES this food and it's much healthier than other kibble on the market. It was also delivered super fast!
