Fill with black oil sunflower seed, safflower mix, and peanut pieces. Before filling your feeder with fresh seed, it is recommended that the following precautions are taken: * Remove all old seed. * Soak feeder in a light water/bleach solution (9 parts H20 to 1 part bleach). * Scrub feeder and allow to air dry. * Rake and remove accumulated hulls and droppings from underneath the feeders. * Spread mulch (bark or wood) under the feeder, replace mulch when soiled. To prevent mold growth, use weatherproof feeders when conditions are humid or wet. * Thoroughly wash hands after handling and cleaning feeders.

The best thing to do is to stop feeding the birds temporarily. Remove the feeders and throw out all of the seed. Thoroughly wash your feeders. Remove all debris from under your feeder. Do not touch the sick birds. Refill all of your feeders and resume feeding.
You will need to sterilize your seed to prevent it from germinating. This will not alter the attractiveness or the nutritional value of the seed in any way. Here are two methods:Conventional Oven: Place the seed on a baking sheet and cook for 30 minutes at 300°F.Microwave Oven: Place seed in a paper bag. Cook on high power for 5 minutes.
Mold is caused by a heavy rain, driving sleet or snow plugging the feeding ports and allowing water to dampen the seed. Always clean, dry and refill your feeders after heavy weather. You may also want to try placing 1/4" of cat litter in the bottom of the feeder to absorb excess moisture.

Messy and inconvenient. You have to hold the mesh upward with one hand, while pouring the seed in with the other. It looks nice once it’s hung-but the squirrels get to it and the seed goes everywhere. Then within a few days, I’m pulling sprouts out of the flower bed from the seed I couldn’t clean up . So messy and inconvenient, and it is getting on my nerves. I have had it since May, and gave it a chance. Now I want to get rid of the thing and find something more suitable for the cardinals and my garden.
Without a doubt, the worst feeder I've ever purchased. Difficult to fill, birds need to access food through the mesh screen(which I've always found frustrating for the birds to the point of non-use). Save yourself the hassle and look elsewhere for a feeder!
My first one lasted 5 years until it was destroyed by raccons. The birds are all delighted to see the new one. It is the best choice for cracked sunflower seed.
I had an original without the top or bottom plates it survived a racoon attack. Dusty seed will make mud on bottom of feeder simple to clean
This feeder is great for all kinds of birds. The only drawback is that if it is not cleaned regularly ( Every few months) it will rust and become useless. This is my second unit because I did not clean my first one. I highly recommend this feeder if you enjoy the comfort of birds in your yard.
My only problem is that the birds love it so much I’m refilling it 2-3x a week!
Hard to open birds hate it
Finally found a feeder that squirrels could not access. I live in the city where squirrels dominate everything. It's frustrating to find a feeder they can't destroy with ease. I hang this feeder from my overhang so I can enjoy watching the birds from my window. The squirrels have tried everything but cannot conquer this feeder. The birds are enjoying the food and I'm loving the variety of birds that feel welcome to feed here. Very good product. Highly recommend
I like the fact that this collapses. If I need to take it down it takes up very little space. I find it easy to fill and the birds love it.
Wasted my money! Bottom fell out with seed inside. Squirrel tried to get to seed as well. What a waste of my money
