Is it safe for cats?

These candles are made specifically for use in homes with pets. They are a Paraffin and Soy blend with a zinc wick. This candle uses powerful enzymes to attack and neutralize unpleasant smells instead of just masking them. It is safe to use in homes with small pets, such as a rabbit, along with dogs, cats, birds and reptiles.
why does the candle leave soot and burn black smoke?

The candle will begin to give off black smoke and soot, when the wick has not been trimmed. If smoking occurs, extinguish candle, re-trim wick to 1/8 inch, remove any trimmings or debris and relight candle. Should the jar become blackened, extinguish flame, allow candle to cool, and wipe inside of jar with a paper towel to clean off residue.

To prevent fire, burn candle within sight, never on or near anything that can catch fire, out of reach of children and pets.
