My laying hens are still laying daily !

I love this feed for my hens , they’re happy & healthy even with the drop in temps here in central Illinois.

The ingredients looked good and it's supposed to be a starter feed.

Problem is, the food bits are much too big and hard for my 3-day-old Barred Rock chicks to eat. Their little beaks aren't strong enough yet to break the hard grains

Problem is, the food bits are much too big and hard for my 3-day-old Barred Rock chicks to eat. Their little beaks aren't strong enough yet to break the hard grains apart and the bits are too big for them to swallow without breaking them apart. So my chicks would try to eat and then give up. I ended up having to go to a local feed store and buy a bag of "ordinary" chick starter feed because it's fine enough for my chicks to eat at this young age. When I put the feed store crumbles in their feeder, they all ddove in and chowed down. I'll switch them over to the Peterson feed when they're older. I still think it looks like a great feed, but it's definitely NOT a good starter feed for recently hatched chicks.

Chicks love it

Our 1-day old red stars gobbled up this feed. I looked up the company and it is a small, family owned American company and I am happy to support them! We need more

Our 1-day old red stars gobbled up this feed. I looked up the company and it is a small, family owned American company and I am happy to support them! We need more people like the Petersons, people who care about food and animals and produce good quality products using sustainable agriculture. As baby chicks, they had a hard time eating the bigger pieces so when I fermented the food (just stirred in enough water to make the food soggy, and left it covered in a small bowl for a few hours) they gobbled everything up!!
