Questions & Answers

5 Customer Questions

What kind of starch is used?

Is this litter scented?

Answer by ChewyJun 05, 2025
This litter does have a natural scent, but it’s not artificially fragranced. The scent comes from the tofu ingredient itself, which is typical of all tofu-based litters from Pidan. So while it's not 'unscented,' there are no added perfumes — just the mild, natural smell of tofu.

How many bags are needed to start a fresh box? Will one be enough to fill?

Answer by ChewyNov 19, 2025
It is generally recommended to use two bags per month for one cat. For best performance, the litter should be filled to a depth of 5–6 centimeters (about 2 inches) and scooped daily. For most standard-sized litter boxes, one bag is enough to fill the box when starting fresh.

Is this safe to use in automatic litter boxes?

Answer by ChewyOct 04, 2025
The litter may be used in an automatic litter box. It is recommended to check the compatibility of your specific box.

I’ve avoided trying tofu litter for a long time

As someone who eats a lot of tofu, the thought of scooping something I eat for dinner out of my cats’s litterbox was kinda eww. But I’ve been having a lot of problems with the litter I’ve used for years: a formerly wonderful cassava litter that now takes a pneumatic road drill to get out of the litterbox. I’d been struggling with it for an embarrassing amount of time. It took my pet sitter begging me to use something else so she could scoop the boxes without pulling a muscle to make me realize this litter was not going to get better anytime soon. I still had a ton of that litter left, so I bought the Pidan litter as an additive to weaken the concrete mess of the other one. I was expecting huge uncomfortable pellets, somewhere between Yesterday’s News and Breeze pellets on the “what does it feel like when cats or humans step on it” pain scale. They’re TINY. My cats who dislike pellets have had zero problems adapting to this one so far. And the odor control (so far) has been far superior. I’m not a fan of artificially scented cat litter, but this one is so faint that it barely registers. That’s a win in my book. I’ve been using it for a few weeks now, and I’ve since added it to my subscriptions.

The best cat litter solution, hands down

This litter is by far the best in my experience, not only speaking as a longtime cat mom but also cat sitter. I’ve been exposed now to numerous brands and types

This litter is by far the best in my experience, not only speaking as a longtime cat mom but also cat sitter. I’ve been exposed now to numerous brands and types and this one is a winner for me. Reasons? The most important one is it doesn’t create dust; it’s just like working with a pile of solid material that doesn’t make a huge cloud when you pour it or when your cats cover their poop. This is liberating for our lungs and your cat’s too! I’ve always had nasal congestion and post nasal drip every morning and thought it was due to year round allergies to grass pollen, but when I switched to this litter my respiratory problems improved greatly. It also clumps GREAT and any little pieces that get tracked out of the box are much easier to clean. Third it lasts long!!! I’m in love with this product, you have a new longtime customer and happy cat mom :))

Never change this formula, it’s purrrrfect!

I had been using a soft wood litter for my one black kitty, and while I thought the odor control was good and after every litter box visit she had a film of dust on her paws, legs, tail, and other unexpected places which led me to switch to Pidan’s tofu litter based on my research about it being dust free. I am SO impressed with it! Not only is it dust free, it’s also extremely low to no tracking too! The odor control is far superior, and the litter actually has a light pleasant smell that isn’t overwhelming. I initially started with mixing it into the old litter and my cat took to it immediately with no issues. I’m so glad I took the risk to switch! Highly recommend!

If you’re thinking about changing to tofu litter, this is the one to go with. I’ve used this litter in the past and recently reordered it after trying another tofu litter. This particular brand does have a scent, it’s a sweet almost cake like scent, it’s not too overwhelming, very subtle, usually strongest right out of the bag. I thought it would be an issue with my current cat but he didn’t seem to mind it at all. He immediately used the litter after I filled it with Pidan. I’ve used this brand with three different cats; all different ages and breeds and none of them had an issue with using the tofu litter. This stuff is amazing with odor control and it BARELY tracks. My current kitty has long tufts of hair on his paws so I figured I’d be sweeping this stuff up all the time, but nope! It barely makes it a few inches away from the litter box. Honestly, this stuff is amazing.

I was forever a fan of tea leaf litter - first the Green Tea litter from Next Gen Pet, then that was hard to find and Weruva came to market with the Tea Potty, so that was my main stay for residents and all fosters - for years. While expensive, it lasts a long time & is lightweight to carry! Game changer for litter. But then it disappeared during the pandemic and in my frenzy of finding a replacement I tried approx 1 million (always natural) litters. This one stands out. The smell is light and clean, the dust is almost non-existent (except that’s never true, as my black cats can verify), the bags are light and vacuum packed, and the tracking is soooo low. I’ll see a couple tofu pellets outside the box but nothing like any of the other litters that claim “low tracking”. I just keep a tiny dust pan next to the box and that’s all I need to tidy. Thank you Pidan!

No cat litter is perfect, but this is the closest I've found. I have 5 cats and this stuff has good odor control. Litter inevitably gets kicked out of the box by my messy boys, but I don't find it all over the house like I have with other lightweight litters. Fair warning, there can be some dusty smell to it if you're not scooping often enough, especially with multiple cats.

I really love this litter, but when I first put it in my cats litter box, he started eating it. Since then, I mix it with a clay litter and that’s been perfect for us. It reduces tracking I like the scent and mixing it stops him from eating it. Also prefer how it clumps I find there are less tiny particles that stay in the box.

Best litter i've tried!

it has a really soft natural scent which I love and the clumping is great. It doesn't track like your typical litter but that's not to say it doesn't track at all. Just not nearly as much as clay litter. I feel like the odor control is also great but I do clean the box everyday as I have two cats.

When I heard Tofu litter was an option I was skeptical. But as someone who failed to make the transition to pine pellets, and has many issues with clay litter - this was a game changer. 1) Biodegradable, much better for environment and landfill. I transitioned my bags to brown paper bags and it works great and I feel like I’m making a small difference in cutting back on waste. Also your scoops and boxes should be much easier to clean as well compared to clay. 2) Not as heavy, from shipping to trash day those boxes much lighter 3) Low dust - I still have an air purifier across from the boxes and you will still need to dust as you would. But the experience of cleaning the boxes is not suffocating. 4) Low tracking. This is perhaps my favorite part, because the pellets are a littler longer and thicker than like the sand of clay litter, it’s not getting everywhere. Or, if one of your cats is like mine and kicks all the litter out, my vacuum is much better as picking this kind up. 5) Great odor control. While this is subjective to your nose, mine loves this stuff. When it first comes out it has like a sweet scent that’s interesting, one review I had read said cupcakes and I kinda agree. There’s like a vanilla scent to it. Overtime, it’s fairly unscented. The only odors might be immediately after someone uses the litter box and even then, most of the time my cats just need to do a better job of covering. 6) Clumps great. 7) My biggest trepidation when I was first considering making the switch was the cost and wondering if I was getting enough for how much I was spending. It strangely feels as though it lasts longer and my entire process is cleaner. That said, I do clean my litter boxes (home of three cats) one a day. There you have it. I am telling all the cat parents in my life to try it out and I think if you’re considering it, go for it.

I like the clumping tofu litter because it’s easier to clean up and there’s less tracking but I found that this tofu litter had an odd odor that other tofu litters didn’t have. Despite cleaning the litter box daily, it still left tough residue on the metal litter box that was difficult to get off. It’s a cheap alternative to the more expensive tofu litters in the market but sadly it didn’t work out for my cat.
