Immediately upon opening the box, I noticed a bent piece. I brushed this off as an accident in the shipping process until touching it and realizing that it was genuinely warped, and moved much more easily than the bars around it. It's the exact bar meant to hold the cage fastener, as luck had it. As I assembled the cage I noticed multiple other areas like this and a bar that was entirely detached. Obviously no one wants a cage that's broken before it leaves the box, but this wasn't the last straw for me. It was when I put my rat in the new cage, started getting ready for work and less than 20 minutes later, he ran up to me. I was happy with the size, price, and setup of the cage until this point. My best guess is that he got out of the top of the cage, where I had only used FIVE fasteners. Mind you, these are explicitly labeled as being optional. If you are going to manufacturer a flimsy product, my advice is to, minimum, either quality check your product, or do not label "additional" safety measures as being optional. This cage absolutely needs them. I didn't take a picture of the gap because I corrected it immediately with more fasteners, but it was significant by the time he crawled out. This product both arrived misshapen and failed at its single fundamental purpose. I would not recommend this product for any animal smaller than a guinea pig or smarter than a rock.
