How many cups for a 100lb American Akita

Why is there yeast in it? What benefit does it have?

Answer by ChewyAug 20, 2025
The yeast found in this food is a nutritional yeast that makes up less than 0.1% of the recipe weight. It is fermented dried and used to deliver specific non-synthetic trace minerals such as manganese and zinc that are needed in a pet’s diet.

How many cups of food are in the 86.4oz bag?

Answer by ChewyOct 02, 2025
Since this food uses whole food ingredients, the pieces of Kibble in the Raw can fluctuate from bag to bag. On average, you’ll find the 1.5-pound bag will have approximately 10.5 cups, the 4-pound bag will have approximately 26 cups, the 5.4-pound bag will have approximately 35 cups, and the 9-pound bag will have approximately 63 cups.

Is it crunchy

Answer by ChewyNov 03, 2025
The texture of the Kibble in the Raw is a softer, freeze-dried consistency that can break apart when pressure is applied with two fingers. It is not hard like a baked or extruded kibble.

My dog has always been on frozen raw food but my freezer died and I lost EVERYTHING. This prompted an emergency switch to freeze dried and I grabbed some of this. He loves it and it’s super convenient. I’ll probably use it as treats since it is pretty pricey to feed as a sole diet but Primal is a local brand for me so I always have loved and supported their company.

Dogs gobbled it down

But they were soooo itchy and red, licking paws and shaking their heads!!! I doled it out slowly so they could get used to it. Used it as a treat or food topper

But they were soooo itchy and red, licking paws and shaking their heads!!! I doled it out slowly so they could get used to it. Used it as a treat or food topper. They couldn’t handle it. I had to stop giving it to them. Even with apoquel they couldn’t eat it without major allergy symptoms. So, I had to stop feeding my Scottish terriers this food. I guess beef isn’t their thing.

It’s a step down from the other food that’s available that is similar, but you can mix the two together for more cost-effective feeding. Regardless, both of these options are made in their own plants and I trust both brands wholeheartedly. This one just happens to have seed oils andnot as many fresh fruit and veggie ingredients as the simple food project.

I was happly with the results of purchasing this brand for my cat...She loves it! I was excited to feed this highly recommended food to my dog, however both bags smelled like paint or shellac and my dog would not touch it. I was disappointed and will not be ordering it again. A costly mistake.

My dogs were disappointed

My dogs have tried a variety of freeze dried raw foods and they weren't really excited to eat this brand. I'm really not sure why. It looked good and I re-hydrated

My dogs have tried a variety of freeze dried raw foods and they weren't really excited to eat this brand. I'm really not sure why. It looked good and I re-hydrated it before feeding, as I do other brands, and my least picky eater had trouble finishing it.

We spent some time touring the country and wanted to save on weight so we switched them slowly to this prior to the trip. They really loved it. I'd strongly suggest following the transition guide but if you take it slow, you'll notice happier, less smelly toots and poops. It was too expensive to keep up with full time with our large dog in the end but once we get reestablished, this will hopefully be back on the menu for them both.

I purchased the Primal Raw Beef Recipe dog food because I want to provide a better diet for my dogs... something that is more palatable and less less processed than dry kibble. My two dogs were adapting to it when I mixed it with their current kibble but I realized that the cost to transition them to a diet of freeze dried food would be prohibitive for this retired single person's budget.

Dog loved this!

I usually feed a raw diet, but needed something for the dog sitter so I chose this. Dry but not hard like kibble. Good when used for treats .

Love it!

I recently switched over to this from honest kitchen and my dogs coat is softer and shinier. He was also starting to scratch alot more and that has stooped as well

I recently switched over to this from honest kitchen and my dogs coat is softer and shinier. He was also starting to scratch alot more and that has stooped as well. Huge bonus...he was finicky and never finished his meals, now he's expectantly waiting for me to put this in front of him. I may have to start using a slow feeder.
