Calm Pellets for chronic pain in mini horses

I gave my miniature donkey the Calm Pellets starting 3 days before the farrier came but didn't notice any real impact on her behavior. So I decided to try them out

I gave my miniature donkey the Calm Pellets starting 3 days before the farrier came but didn't notice any real impact on her behavior. So I decided to try them out on my 2 miniature horses that are currently taking Bute for founder and have chronic painful hooves. I felt like it helped in that they seemed to be more comfortable and were getting around more. I mixed a little less than 1/2 a scoop with their twice daily feed and they ate it all up. It's all subjective and perhaps only wishful thinking but I will continue with using Calm Pellets as it's the only improvement that I have noticed plus the convenience of home delivery with Chewy.com.

Bought this for Fourth of July and it didn’t disappoint. I started feeding a few days before the 4th. I think it has really helped to calm my entire herd. I don’t feel like they were as crazy as past 4th of July. Everybody stayed relatively calm, except for when the loud booms cracked, and shrapnel hit our barn roof. I’ll probably try it again around new years. Overall I’m happy and it’s much easier than ear plugs. And it’s not something that my her needs all the time

I really wanted to love this product - it's easy, it smells look, looks good, sounds good, doesn't make a mess, and no hesitation from the horses about eating it..

I really wanted to love this product - it's easy, it smells look, looks good, sounds good, doesn't make a mess, and no hesitation from the horses about eating it... But does it work? I'm not sure. I don't think I saw a significant change in anxiety, and perhaps less change than the product I was using previously (only contained magnesium). If you have a fussy eater who doesn't like the powdered products then it's probably worth a shot.

My OTTB stresses like there is no tomorrow about trailering. This has made a night and day difference! Yes, he still gives quite the side eye at the trailer, but he has much calmer at approach and loading. And when it comes time to get off, he does not bolt. This Has made practicing loading and actually traveling, much easier. Less stressful for me, and much less stressful for him!

My Arabian mare age 28 has always had a trailering issue. She hates to go into the trailer. She gets very excited and that excites the other horses. I had an event I wanted to go on. I was unsure of trailering my horse to the event. I was worried what if I can’t get her back in the trailer to bring her home. I started adding the CALM just as soon as I received it to her grain before the event. I was very pleased with the results. She trailered easier than usual. She wasn’t so excited and loaded fairly quick. She also wasn’t nervous and stressed throughout the trailering. I think this product definitely helped with her trailering jitters. I will purchase again for another trailering event.

I don't love or hate this product. I haven't noticed much difference with our 19yo gelding. This probably isn't something I would try again, at least not with this

Show Legal, Palatable and Possibly Helpful

Before trying CALM, I looked up the ingredients and checked them in the USEF rules to make sure they're show legal. They are, but it would be helpful if this was

Before trying CALM, I looked up the ingredients and checked them in the USEF rules to make sure they're show legal. They are, but it would be helpful if this was noted on the product as anyone who does rated horse shows will have this concern. I compete in the hunters. I tried CALM on my young, green warmblood mare as well as my eight year-old warmblood gelding that has considerable mileage. Both ate the supplement without fuss. My mare seemed totally unaffected and stayed as sensitive as ever, but my gelding was more quiet and confident than usual while competing in a strange, spooky indoor yesterday. So the jury is out for me as at this point as its effect is anecdotal... but it's show legal, palatable and possibly helpful.

I did some reading about the ingredients here and was very impressed at the studies done. The flavor is one my young horse enjoys, and I’m not sure he’s had it long enough to show significant change in behavior, but he happily consumes it. The studies done shows that cortisol levels of horses who experienced stress after consumption of this had less cortisol response than those that did not. I look forward to seeing that in my own horse, he has not been on it long enough to show significant improvement. But I will be keeping him on it because he likes it and has calmed down.
