she loves the fish flesh, but possibly sharp salmon skin???
My cat absolutely LOVES these. But I noticed that she has a hard time chewing the skin, and a few times shes even thrown it up (and then ate the treat again like cats do, but didn't eat the skin the 2nd time). When I cleaned up what was left, the skin was still stiff and her teeth hadn't punctured/torn it at all. Upon a closer look at the bag, I realized almost every piece has the salmon skin which, when freeze dried, becomes very, very stiff and doesn't disintegrate like freeze dried flesh; and because they are cut into rectangles, there are 4 sharp corners on almost every piece. I am really concerned that the skin was irritating her mouth and stomach, and that she was unable to chew and digest it properly because of the skin. BUT, the salmon meat itself was great, which is why I still buy them occasionally. Now I just peel the skin off of every. single. piece. before feeding them to her.
Crushed, hard, inedible
These were a combo of huge, dry chunks that were hard to break apart and just powder. My cat has never rejected a treat until now. The catnip flavor he at least licked but then ran off. This one wasn't even "lick"able. It was fine because there was so little treat with how much was completely crushed.
Freeze Dried Salmon
Both my cats and my dogs LOVE these treats. The only complaint I have with them is that the salmon skin on some of the pieces dries too hard for the cats.to chew, but aside from skinning the fish before freeze drying it, which is probably not feasible economically and is possibly impractical from a processing standpoint, it may be unavoidable.
Cat won't even taste :(
I bought these for my 5 year old cat who has a chicken allergy. I thought she would be really interested in these, but she won't even try them. She completely refuses to eat them. She seems interested in the smell, but won't even go in for a lick.
Cat loves them
My cat was hesitating to try them since he hasn’t had freeze dried treats before. I put a few of there smaller pieces on his food. Now if I even think about touching the bag he is right on it trying to eat them all. As for the human involved, love that there is one ingredient, salmon.
Yummy but crummy
My cats love these the few pieces of whole ones and crumbs as food sprinkles. Just wish there were more whole pieces. 80% off the the bag was dust
I eat a bag a week
My human orders 4 bags of this a month, one for each week. When my regular food goes in the bowl, I'll come back later to eat it because I'd rather follow my human around the house. Then, sometimes he puts this salmon on top, and I can't help but eat it right away. I've never even had salmon before- I typically just like chicken- but it was love at first sniff. Yes, some of the pieces do have a lot of skin, and a lot of it is powder, but it's a nutritious and affordable addition to my diet. I also like the diverse sizes of pieces, like I'm eating real pieces of fish.
Would not recommend this product
I am having to buy products that is new to me for my kittens and they are 5-7 months old and eat very well but they refused to eat their food with this as a topper. I found so much that was hard as a rock like they over dried this stuff?
Cats liked these.
I don't understand why Chewy is out of this currently, I was able to order from a major pet store chain, and it came within 3 days. The pieces can be big, so I just cut them into smaller pieces with a scissors. They do have the skin on, but my cats liked them. I also saved the little bit of dust in the bag in a small container to use as a food topper once in a while. Sprinkle a little on top and mix it in with their canned food and they accept it with no problem. At least Pure Bites hasn't jacked up their prices (like other companies have to a ridiculous amount.) I also ordered Pure Bites Chicken, and they liked that as well.
My cats adore this. All I have to do is pick up the bag, and they come running. A lot of these treats have some unhealthy and questionable ingredients, but this has one ingredient. It helps their skin. My only complaints are the salmon skin and the inconsistency of the sizes of the pieces. Some pieces have skin on them and are really tough to chew. One piece was pure salmon skin. Some pieces are too big (so you'll have to cut them up) while others are tiny. Other than that, this is a good treat.
