My 6 year old German shepherd eats this. I have a 3 month old Goldendoodle that got into his food and now refuses to eat anything but this food. She won’t touch her puppy food now. Is it ok if she eats this??!!

Answer by chickeyJun 04, 2025
They make the same flavor in that brand but for puppies. If you type purina puppy it should pop up a teal colored bag with salmon and rice for puppies.

What is the difference between small breed and adult in this product?

Answer by MarkDec 14, 2025
Hi, I accidentally bought the small breed recently. The pieces are just much smaller (approximately 1/3 the size) of regular adult. My pup who is about 43 lbs tolerated it the same as the adult size.

Is this for puppies six months and older?

Answer by Dogmom93Nov 29, 2025
We got this food because the breeder of our German Shepherd puppy gave it to her dogs of all ages. He is 6yo now and doing great despite eating this as a puppy. I never feed my puppies puppy food, always purina adult formulas because it eliminates too many food transitions.

Beau has been on Purina Pro Plan starting with Puppy Purina Pro Plan when I first got him at 3 months old. He Loved it from day one and has grown into a Big Beautiful Healthy Boy! I switched him to Adult 3 months ago and he Loves Loves it even more. He recently went to the Veterinarian for his Big Boy check up. After, all of his Blood Tests and Fecal came back Perfectly including his Physical Exam I Credited it to PURINA PRO PLAN and so did his Veterinarian!!! She also said she feeds her dog the same thing! I Highly recommend Purina Pro Plan!!

I trusted that a food for sensitive skin and stomachs would be careful of meat ingredients, so I fed my dog this salmon formula for a long time. I stressed about other causes for her itchiness and eventually realized I never looked at the ingredients closely on her main food bag. I recently switched her to a vegetarian kibble to find out if her food was truly the issue. She has not had a flare up since. I encourage everyone to look at the ingredients closely. I am disappointed that I had to be this diligent. Purina should not use beef in the formula (which is in ALL of their sensitive skin and stomach dry food flavors).

My Old English Bulldog, Meatball, has severe allergies. The vet prescribed a prescription hydrolyzed protein food that was very expensive. We were on the prescription food for 2 years and saw no improvement. I switched my dogs, including Meatball, to Pro Plan a few months ago and her allergies have not gotten any worse. The rest of my dogs prefer the flavor of this food to the previous dry food they had been on for years.

I am switching food due to my dogs itching on the food that I had them on. I am trying Purina Pro Plan Salmon and rice for a few reasons. I own a Labrador and a Golden Lab. They both are itchy in the winter time and our Golden also has tummy issues. I am so far pleased with this food. The first thing I noticed was the strong fishy smell. I was happy with that as it means that the #1 ingredient is Salmon, to me. My dogs have only been on it about a week so it is too soon to tell if it is helping their issues or not. I do know they LOVE it. Happy dog, happy owner!

I was told this bag was for small dogs but it isn't and i can't return it. I try to break it into smaller pieces after measuring the meal portion. She didn't want it at first because it was the first time I was giving her something new in her 3 yrs of life. Now she does eats it after mixing in a few of her old fav food. She has no negative digestive issues and her fur has significantly improved! Maybe next time I will try to find the bag for smaller breeds

My coco has a very sensitive stomach and her fur was in a rough state from eating food from not very good brands labeled as “good brands”. I was a little skittish about ordering this one just bc no other one had worked for her but ever since she started eating this food her fur has improved tremendously and she doesn’t get tired or bored of this kibble like she did with other brands. 100% recommend this specific food if you have a sensitive pup.

I've been ordering Chewy for years now, delivery is every three weeks. For some reason, this order was completely incorrect. I do NOT own any cats but I received cat treats. I did NOT receive my dog treats (which is ALWAYS on my order). I also received the wrong Purina Pro Plan food for my big dogs. It was a sad order this go 'round especially because my orders cost me so much money.

Best food. Worst online service

Our dogs' coats have been shiny and full with less itching ever since switching on our Vet;s Rec. This Scam of an online service Chewy.com however is bogus. advertised

Our dogs' coats have been shiny and full with less itching ever since switching on our Vet;s Rec. This Scam of an online service Chewy.com however is bogus. advertised subscription for this food at $47/bag, but apparently that was only the first month (in some tiny print we still cannot find to this day), and now is $98 - we will be cancelling today. It's cheaper at a Big box nearby, and the day a mom n pop opens nearby we'll move to that.

Initially, our dog loved this kibble so much that we had to put it in a snuffle mat or slow feeder to keep him from inhaling it. A year later, it now takes him all day to eat only his breakfast portion unless we top it with scrambled eggs or canned salmon. For variety, we're trying lamb and beef kibble now (different brands) since chicken often upsets his stomach. I assigned 4 stars here as an average of my initial evaluation (5) and my current one (3).

This is liquid gold for my golden retriever. My 6yo aussie has a stomach of steel, she can eat anything under the sun and still have solid poops. My golden retriever does not share that same trait, unfortunately. Lucky for us ppp is consistent and always keeps her poops solid. I’ve tried changing her food a few times and I always come back to this.
