We switched from the Hills Corgi-specific diet for my dog and slowly transitioned him to PPP for over a week. He still got sick. Vomiting/diarrhea, and vet confirmed the Purina food caused increased bacteria in his gut and he's now on several medications for nausea, antibacterial, probiotic, etc. Hoping this resolves the issue as we still have over a week of medication, and hoping this review is helpful. I also read online that the change in the PPP formula has caused a lot of GI issues in dogs.
This food made my dog so sick, he ate it twice and then I had to take him to the emergency vet for horrible stomach issues, throwing up, diarrhea, lethargic, poor guy was put on 4 medications and spent the day at the vet getting fluids. Cost me $400 to get him feeling better. DO NOT BUY
We started our husky on this two months ago to facilitate weight loss. The first month and a half (first bag) was tolerated well. This bag was purchased around February 2023. We received the autoship second bag around end of April/May 2023. Continued to feed it to our girl. No weight loss after 2 months. She started having diarrhea end of April that returned after being treated. We slowly transitioned over to the PPP sensitive skin and stomach again. Her stools changed to normal and formed almost immediately. Now we’ve spent hundreds of dollars in vet bills to test stool samples 2-3 times, pay for metronidazole, and deworm out baby. And all because of the food we were giving her. This is not a negative review of chewy - we love chewy. Just a negative and frustrating review to reiterate how aggravating the change in formula has been for our pup.
Whenever we get a box (Purina Pro Plan Adult Weight Management Shredded Blend Chicken & Rice Formula Dry Dog Food) delivered, we always tell Daisy, “The peanut butter box is here” and she just can’t stand it until we open the box and open the bag. We had no trouble getting her to try a bite. She stuck her head right in the bag and got a taste. Haha One week in and she still gobbles it down. No issues, so it’s a keeper.
The vet said our beagle Hank needed to lose some weight. This one was perfect because it came with a pic of his weight loss goal! But seriously, he LOVES this food and gets excited to eat. He's been eating it for a month and transitioned well. I would say his GI system improved. I am not sure about the amount of weight loss, but he has noticeably slimmed in his "waist." I would recommend this food.
When my dry dog food arrived and I opened it to pour into a plastic container, the top of the bag had a quite a bit of crumbs mixed in. I know Chewy didn’t manufacture the food but the excessive crumbs may have been caused by rough handling in the warehouse or maybe from the delivery company. Not sure if I’ll continue purchasing the food on line or just get it from the supermarket. I have always been happy with other purchases from chewy but not sure about dog food
As the peasant servant of a tyrannical (but very sweet) wiener dog who will eat literally anything and has the propensity of going the way of Henry VIII without the wives, I can verify that this food is great. He has not once thrown the bowl at me in disgust demanding roast beast instead. He stays in svelte, healthy, borking shape which is good because the Weendom does not particularly want to fund another spinal surgery. One was enough. This food was recommended by the physician to the tiny lord 6 years ago and his lowness has been happy with it since and in fact, attempts to manipulate his other peasant servants to provide him a feast again even though the noble kitchen has already provided him with such sustenance already. Periodically this is a success due to miscommunication. Overall, 5/5 his lordship does recommend. ~Lord Dogemort’s Peasant Servant
Piper, isn’t a picky eater but she is a diva. I had to change up her main dish because she was becoming an Aunt Lidia. A little chubby around the midsection. After I started feeding her the weight management plan. She started to lose weight and she appears to have more energy. I had to give it a 5 star, because it’s that good. Thanks Purina!
I never had an issue with the purchasing of items with a free amount. The listing of purchase quantity with the cost of free amount quantity with the computer adjusting the final cost. My quanity was adjusted by customer service.I am very pleased.
He is actually eating this. He is picky but Major is eating this now. I lke how it is shredded. He had the regular food for big dogs. This seems to be a bit smaller and I like that.
