New Version Available
Good news, this item has been replaced by a new version of the product. This previous version is no longer available.
We recommend that you keep your dog in ideal body condition and not allow your dog to become overweight. The exact amount of food your dog requires will need to be adjusted according to age, activity and environment. But a good place to start is with these guidelines for an average, active, adult dog fed once daily. Using a standard 8 oz./250 ml measuring cup which contains approximately 122 g of Pro Plan.
Transition Instructions
Although you'll be anxious to see the difference Pro Plan can make in your dog, please allow 7-10 days to ease the transition from your dog's current food. Each day, simply feed a little less of the previous food and a little more Pro Plan until you're feeding Pro Plan exclusively. This gradual transition will help avoid dietary upsets.

I have a chinese crested who is 13yrs old, 10 lbs, and not active. Will this food cause a weight gain for her?
If so, which would you recommend for her sensitive stomach and terrible skin? TIA
Answer by vannah • Feb 20, 2023
she won't if you adjust your serving sizes to accommodate for the higher calorie content. you can ask your vet what they think her calorie intake should be, though id wager probably a half cup per day or slightly more, which is around 240 calories
Is the size of the kibble smaller than the same food for regular size breeds?
What is the copper content of this small breed formula?
Answer by BridgetA • Apr 07, 2025
The copper content is as follows:
Copper As Fed: 15.3 ppm
Copper Dry Matter: 16.6 ppm

Just what we needed

We took our Welsh Pembroke Corgi to our veterinarian for skin issues and he told us that from the look of it, she has skin allergies. She got antibiotics and steroids for her current reaction, and he recommended food that was either lamb or salmon based. After doing some research into the ingredients of several different foods, we decided to try this one first. She has had no trouble with the transition and loves when it's breakfast & dinner time!! Her skin issues have cleared up for the time being and we hope it will stay that way!!

New for my Molly
I switched to Purina Pro Plan Small Breed Adult Sensitive Skin & Stomach formula, Salmon & Rice Flavor because my vet recommended it for my Molly.

I switched to Purina Pro Plan Small Breed Adult Sensitive Skin & Stomach formula, Salmon & Rice Flavor because my vet recommended it for my Molly.
For the last 3 years I've been feeding her Dr. Pol's Salmon, Grain Free kibble, there were no issues with the Dr. Pol's food, the price of Dr. Pol's is great kibble & affordable & Molly ate it without any issues.
Purina Pro Plans price is rather expensive. But, I chose to give it a try based on the vet telling me to stay away from Grain Free dog food and her high recommendation of the Purina Pro Plan.
I followed the bag instructions to mix the new kibble with the old kibble for a period of 7 to 10 days. After adding the new kibble to the bowl at feeding time, Molly would pick out the Dr Pol's food one piece of kibble at a time, set it on the floor, then devour the Purina as though it was a bowl full of treats. Then after she ate all of the Purina, she would finish eating the Dr. Pol's, so the slow mix of new food was a waste of time because Molly made sure she ate the new food first and saved the old stuff for last.
With the old food, It used to be that I would fill Molly's bowl in the morning with her daily food ration, now I have to split it into 3 separate portions because she devours it so quickly. With the old dog food, she used to graze her food intake throughout the day, now if I don't portion her food she eats it all in one full swoop as though it is a bowl of dog treats. To make sure she doesn't binge eat, I ration her dietary intake. In between the kibble rations, I also give her treats of steamed fresh veggies, carrots, broccoli, green beans, etc.
My only complaint about the Purina is how expensive it is.

Only change in his diet was a small sprinkle of this on his regular food and he got diarrhea later that night. All dogs are different tho! Besides being science-backed, what’s important to me for dog food is the scent quality. This smells near exactly like the Native salmon oil at the same strength. So I would guess it’s somewhat quality protein but if you don’t mind your baby smelling salmon-y I would pick a different flavor. Can’t comment about the sensitivity it claims because it could be the fish he’s reacting to but you never know.

Milo loves this dog food. I add a teaspoon of the canned purina pro plan, salmon, and rice to his dry food and he loves eating it that way. Every other day, I add a teaspoon of raw coconut oil to his food as well. It’s very good for his skin and he loves the taste. It also cuts back on bad breath and moisturizers his skin.

Yay dog doesn’t like it
My dog barely is willing to touch it . He only eats it when I mix it for his dinner with wet food. I neeed to find another type of dry food that is more palatable

He liked his previous dry food which was chicken based and my dog might have chicken allergy so I had to change his food but this one is not working out unfortunately

How do I know? I didn't eat any of it. As for my dog, he likes trying new things. So that is good. We just got the bag a week ago. So, only time will tell. We will see if it does what it says it will do for him. I do think it is expensive for dry dog food, but it will be worth it if he keeps eating it and the added benefits actually works for him. It is worth a try. He seems to eat it just fine. Stay turned.

I have been feeding my dogs air dry food that is very pricey for the last year or so. Due to some changes in circumstances I wanted to find another option that catered to his skin and digestive issues that wouldn't break the bank. Surprisingly they really enjoyed this food and I am starting to see changes in his digestive system.
