We recommend that you keep your dog in ideal body condition and not allow your dog to become overweight. The exact amount of food your dog requires will need to be adjusted according to age, activity and environment. But a good place to start is with these guidelines for an average, active, adult dog fed once daily.
Weaning Pups: Start puppies on dry or moistened Pro Plan as early as they begin to nibble at solid foods, generally 3-4 weeks of age.
Growing Pups: Feed pups (to six months of age) all of the moistened Pro Plan they will consume at intervals throughout the day. If fed dry, Pro Plan may be kept before pups at all times.
Reproducing Dogs: Pro Plan provides the extra nutrition needed by reproducing females in stages of gestation and lactation. Food consumption may vary during gestation, so feed the amount needed to maintain the pregnant female's ideal body condition Food intake may double or even quadruple during lactation.
Please allow 7-10 days to ease the transition from your dog's current food. Each day, simply feed a little less of the previous food and a little more Pro Plan until you're feeding Pro Plan exclusively. This gradual transition will help avoid dietary upsets.

I have 3 GSD and we have used this food for them for 2 years as they are all high drive dogs with tons of energy. This food was perfect for them and I noticed something was changed in their food this year during the summer. They all started itching terribly. Two of them have ear infections and are most likely itchy also. Another one has bald spots on her legs due to her itching and licking. This has NEVER happened to all 3 dogs before. Normally I figure it’s just seasonal allergies, but it’s almost the end of the year and they are not getting better. I took one of my dogs to the vet and he prescribed 3 different medications of antibiotics and steroids. None of them worked. It’s definitely the food. I noticed today after they ate that one of their ears was turning red from being inflamed. Most likely an allergic response to the food. I am changing foods and not going back to this. Very unfortunate bc we really liked this food for our dogs and now it’s giving them all allergic reactions.
About 15 years ago, when we had to choose a new dog food, I started asking questions of people whose dogs consistently lived long, healthy lives. It was remarkable how many of them were feeding Purina Pro Plan. We switched to Pro Plan and have had really good results. The dogs have no trouble maintaining good muscle, their coats are correct for the breed, their teeth are good, and they are lively and energetic even in old age. We also feel confident feeding Pro Plan because Purina has veterinary nutritionists on staff who are involved in formulating and testing their foods. This is especially important now, when vets are seeing too many cases of diet-associated dilated cardiomyopathy in breeds or mixes that haven't historically been subject to this heartbreaking disease. Purina is one of the few companies whose foods have not been associated with this problem.
Horrible Markup on Pet food and 10xs greater for premium brands. Definitely price gouging the consumer. Use to be able to get the 50# bag for under $40 with sales and coupons pre pandemic. It's not like they use human grade cuts in the pictures and their less expensive Purina brands did not have the same % increase. Greed Not Chewys fault per say but the retailers could push back more.
We've given our pup this formula in the past with no issues and she has done great on it. The most recent bag though looked and smelled a bit different, but our dog was still happy to eat it. We didn't think much of it until she started throwing up after breakfast. At first we thought she'd gotten into something, but at this point it's been happening on and off for a few weeks and we've been watching her like a hawk. The vomit is mostly partially digested food and she has zero other symptoms (energy level and appetite are great). They must have changed the formula and/or they need to recall this. We have half a bag left and it's going straight into the garbage! DO NOT BUY THIS ANYMORE.
Delivered to me in 24 hours. I am so glad there is a Chewy. I so hated going to a Big Box pet store to find this brand. Carrying it to the car and then in the house was a pain. Chewy makes it so easy by dropping it off at my house. Great Job Chewy!!!
I had recently gotten a puppy and all my other dogs are seniors. I needed something that would work out to benefit everyone. They all took to it immediately! I’ve seen reviews about digestive issues. My dogs are all doing great with this food. Happy dogs happy home lol
Thank you so much Chewy! You are super! I received my poodles' dry food a day after I ordered it! My dogs were so happy to be able to have the food so their tummies would not be hungry. Having two foods on 'recall' at the same time was a first for me.
On my vets recommendation I tried all three of my dogs on this food for about a month. I’ve never seen so much gastric distress in any dog, and mine were all horribly sick. I’m disappointed that my vet would think this is a good idea. Switched to Nulo and now all three have perfectly formed stools and are feeling their energetic and healthy selves.
I reported to Chewy who passed along to Purina that the last bag I ordered the kibble was smaller . Purina said nothing has changed by my eyes tell me differently. We fill a treat ball with it. The old kibble was a challenge. This new just falls out.
We started with Purina pro when we got him as a puppy. Tried a switch to a 'higher end' brand and that turned out to upset his stomach, even though I did the slow introduction. Glad I switched back! And thanks chewy got the prompt delivery!
