Is there a way to give it to my cat without her eating around it? Because I don't think she either eats the food when we put it mixed in with her wet food or she eats around it? She seems to be taking after her late sister with being picky, but not as bad.

Answer by CherieOct 23, 2025
My 2 cats had different takes on this stuff. 1 eats it if in wet food, the other dry food, however she stopped eating all together now , so I'm having to stop dosing at all. And now she's showing signs of discomfort , so trying to figure out if it's this stuff or something else.

Can I give this to my pregnant cat?

how much malodextrin is in this i believe this is a toxic substance

Is this able to be used with the “FortiFlora” digestive blend, or does the probiotics in this “Calming” blend suffice by itself??

Answer by ChewyOct 09, 2021
FortiFlora and Calming Care utilize two different strains of bacteria, Enterococcus faecium (SF68) and Bifidobacterium longum (BL999) respectively. Different strains of probiotics have different effects on the body. The promotion of normal intestinal microflora produced through use of FortiFlora specifically targets gut health and gastrointestinal related issues, such as diarrhea. Calming Care, by contrast, communicates with the central nervous system where it has an anxiolytic effect on the pet. In other words, the benefits from FortiFlora are different from the benefits from Calming Care.

I have two 15-year-old cats, Matisse and Sabine, brother and sister. I introduced a kitten, Kato, into the household in November of 2024. It has been a nightmare since. Matisse and Sabine are hostile towards Kato. I tried air room diffuserd that were supposed to dispense calming pheromones. Didn't work I purchased the Purina Pro Plan supplement in addition to some "calming collars" in hopes to bring some harmony amongst the three felines. Matisse is still hostile towards Kato and there is a lot of hissing and Kato usually runs in fear. I really don't know what to do.

Our cat had anxiety and was over grooming. I started mixing it into her wet food in mid-December and by mid-January she had quit grooming those spots too much and the hair has grown back. She also is relaxed enough that she’s doesn’t run when she hears a loud noise. My vet said she recommends this product. I’m going to see if she still needs the pheromone warmers. I suspect she won’t. That will save lots of money.

Our Vet recently recommended Calming Care for my 18.5 year old kitty. He has progressing kidney disease & is going to the litter box hourly. The doctor has seen good responses from this product for calming the cat’s stress from this illness. I just started using it & he readily eats it. If he turns away from a fresh plate of food & I sprinkle a bit of the powder he eats with no problem. This is important to maintain his weight. I’ll keep using it & see if there are additional positive effects. I also appreciate the Chewy discount with autoship.

Our cats love Calm (and Fortaflora) so much we use it for ‘seasoning’ when we’re transitioning foods or in the case of our kitty w/ kidney disease not wanting to eat his bland prescription foods. I think it does help calm them too- we add to our cats food when we’re preparing to go away and have our cat sitter give it to them while we’re away. We also use it when we have house guests or before groomers visits.

I must start that NO, ZERO, ZIP cats under 2-3yrs old need to be calmed unless medically advised. If you chose to go homeo/natura pathic, that is your choice. My Bea was finally diagnosed with Feline Idiopathic Cystitis just this year. 9 fuqing years of vet bills and $$ upon $$. I had to tell her vet what I was suspecting and it's the final of all of any of usually undiagnosed disorders. So far, this hasn't helped as touted. I'll give it 2 more weeks.

We have a younger male cat that constantly bullies our senior female cat. The vet suggested trying the calming care supplement. Around the 2 month mark it seemed like he had calmed down some and was leaving her alone more than he was bullying her. Unfortunately, it didn’t last. As more time passed, we gradually started seeing him harassing her again. Now he’s back to bullying her every day. The only benefit that we noticed after he started taking the supplement that has lasted is that his fur is softer than it used to be.

My very picky cat walked away from this. We keep trying to slowly introduce different brands with zero success. She's a 6 year old rescue with no history, so don't know what she ate previously. Shelter had her on dry Purina Pro Plan, so she eats that but I prefer a healthy wet food. She ate Frisky Gems (also not great) for a day but no more. This brand also has carrageenan which is really bad. So more going in the donation bin. I'll post again if we ever find Molly's Holy Grail Food.

The vet recommended this for my cat who has been overgrooming and losing weight. Her blood work came back fine, her massive appetite is unchanged and increased food portions recently, so they said she's probably stressed. This product takes 30 days to take effect and it's only been two weeks, so not able to determine if it's helping her stress.

I purchased this at my vet's suggestion because my male cats who normally get along fine started attacking each other for no reason that we could see. So we decided to try it. They don't seem to mind the taste and I mix it in with some wet food every day. They have been eating it for about a month. Unfortunately it has done very little to stop their aggressive behaviour towards each other. :( I'm not sure if we need to keep giving it to them or how long it takes to start working or to make a difference. But the taste seems to be fine for them. It seems expensive to me, especially if it doesn't work.
