**Full disclosure, I have not fed this according to the recommended feeding instructions and this is my personal take considering I have an easy keeper. My gelding had a battle with colic a little over a year ago. When this happened, I started supplementing his feed with various vitamins and minerals. He gets flax seeds, fenugreek, sea salt, and soaked chia added to some soaked hay pellets. I like buying feed like this as a dry topper on top of his mash. This not only gives him some crunch, but it adds some yummy flavor. I had been using the purple bag of Total Equine but saw this and thought I would give it a try since the price was right (times are hard people!). It is definitely a hit with my boy but I would never feed this to my horse according to the recommended feeding. The sugar content is high, the fiber content is low and even the fat content is a little high. If you have an easy keeper, then beware. If I fed my horse the recommended feeding, I would end up with a butterball horse for sure! The product is not bad. It does have good ingredients and the analysis is good for some horses. It would probably be really good for a horse that needs weight gain, or you struggle to keep weight on. For my horse, it is a no go. I am going to go back to my purple bag Total Equine.

Purina Strategy has been a nice additional to my winter feeding routine for my 10yr old OTTB. We generally feed mostly forages (hay, cubes, pellets) but in the bitter winter I supplement with grain. This grain is very palatable! And the small pellets are easy to manage & soften somewhat with the addition of water. My horse is not in work and but between this and the hay he is looking very nice this winter.

I have tried several high quality name brand expensive horse grains. This is one of the only ones I’ve successfully gotten my picky horse to eat! My horse is 26 years old and she developed Cushings this year. Ever since she developed this condition, she’s been extremely picky. I have struggled to get her to eat any grain, molasses or plain, high fat, low fat, senior, broodmare, etc. I’ve tried everything. This is the only grain she gobbles down. It’s only been about a week that I’ve been feeding it to her but that’s longer than any other grain has lasted her so I’m hopeful she will continue to eat this. Thankfully this grain is full of nutrition since it is all she’ll eat. It is a very balanced grain. There is no molasses in it so it’s not staining her teeth. Despite having Cushings, she’s actually a hard keeper so we aren’t concerned with having her on low fat or low starch. However, this grain is very reasonable on all nutrient percentages. It’s a very balanced grain for all types of horses. I only feed it to one of my five horses but I’m extremely happy with it for my picky horse. It’s been a great grain so far. It’s full of nutrition and I hope she continues to eat it.

This has a good smell to it that makes it attractive to horses. I tried feeding it by itself and they ate it, just very slowly. When i mixed it with their hay pellets they ate it right up. I do have picky eaters though but my mare gobbled it right up. It is a pelleted feed and my geldings prefer the crumbled texture. It did have a lot of the nutrients they need since they are senior horses. It might need to be soaked if you do have older horses or ones with dental issues/missing teeth. It's a good product and I have trusted Purina with all my animals.

Seems like a good feed option - just not a fan of Purina horse feed products. My horse gets a ration balancer from another company along with her forage and has been thriving. I received this bag open minded though and I have been offering this as a "treat." I put a small handful in my horse's puzzle stall toy and it keeps her preoccupied. She eats it and hasn't turned her nose up to it. I think if this feed meets the needs for someone's horse and fits the bill financially speaking as well, then it would be a great option

We used this to feed our Appaloosa adult horse for a couple weeks. He did not eat it very well and took a while to get him to eat. We tried soaking it and it ended up being like a sandy feel and still did not eat. I could not tell that it improved any performance for him.
