I have Chihuahuas, 8-9 pounds. Is there risk of getting their head stuck through the openings?

It's recommended to measure the width of your dog's head to ensure he wont be able to get his head through the bars. The spacing of the bars are 3 inches.

How does the latching mechanism on the gate work?

Poor construction

I couldn’t get the gate’s locking mechanism to line up no matter how many screws I loosened or tightened. You don’t want to loosen the ends that are meant to cause

I couldn’t get the gate’s locking mechanism to line up no matter how many screws I loosened or tightened. You don’t want to loosen the ends that are meant to cause pressure anyway because I’d expect a dog to put some weight on it at some point and it would come crashing down if I set it up like that. I gave up and will be returning.

Easy install compression mount gate, packaged and labeled for child use! Top quality. They say must use wall mount cups for safety, but works just fine without them for our energetic 2-year-old 20-pound dog. Would certainly use wall cups for human "pup", especially at top of stairs. We used both included extension parts to fit our 47" wide hallway.

Cannot purchase other extensions

The gate itself is okay, we got this to replace our other gate that doesn't fit the hallway we moved to, logistically this one should. Only comes with one long extension

The gate itself is okay, we got this to replace our other gate that doesn't fit the hallway we moved to, logistically this one should. Only comes with one long extension and one small extension- our hallways falls between. With the wall supports at full length the small extension does not fit, and with the long extension it is too big, the supports cannot be added so there is no way to attach it to the wall. You cannot purchase another small extension, and it does not match hardware to other regalo products, which are much more accessible as well. We tried fitting this to another area to test the gate (it cant stay there) and the lifting mechanism for this isn't great, the pole itself seems to get stuck sometimes. We will try to find another way to make this work before we see about returning it, but be aware there is a size this gate doesn't fit, that it should that is between the extension sizes, and there is no way to purchase different extensions to fill the gap.

Nice gate but not what we could use, so donated it to Habitat for Humanity.

Description did not include measure of opening between bars of gate, a big problem once we actually saw it. Would not work for our intentions.

Cheap design

Poor design. Have to pull back button and then lift to open. That's fine. But closing you have to lineup the bottom U-bracket to close then the pullback top locking

Poor design. Have to pull back button and then lift to open. That's fine. But closing you have to lineup the bottom U-bracket to close then the pullback top locking button needs to be pulled back and lined up and wiggled to get it to lock in place. This is too much to get it to stay closed. Easier to step over even at 5'4 than to try to open and close again. Nit to mention it's not self closing either. Needs to be assembled with screws so need a screw driver. No big deal but other brands are self closi g and locking. Single button and lift and stays open at 90 degrees or self closes NOT this one. Do homework get another brand. Look for self closing
