I've had this crate for two years and am raising my second puppy using it. It is a sturdy crate and the size is great. The puppies were litter box trained so I have enough room for a litter box and place for them to sleep. This makes easier to leave them for a few hours without a mess to clean up on the floor. The crate is well built with the exception of the plastic clips which are used to secure the door onto the crate and allow the door to slide open. The clips break quite easily, but the real challenge is in getting replacement clips. I posted a message asking for help via a link on the manufacturer's web site to which I received no response. I also called twice and left a message again no response. I finally was able to get a person on the phone and they told me that it was possible to get replacement clips at a cost of $11 per set of 4 which included shipping. The crate is a good product and I'm ok to pay for additional clips but the manufacturer could improve their customer service. This is an expensive crate and it is frustrating to have customer service that is limited in response.
I was looking forward to this Richell expandable dog crate for our 10-week old Aussie pup. We ordered it with the expandable top. We had tried the Iris Pen with Roof but the mesh top included didn't fit the crate and their customer service never responded to email or phone inquiries about it. Unfortunately, on day one, the pup's paw got stuck in the area below the sliding door on this Richell expandable crate. Unlike the Iris crate sliding door that sits even with the crate walls, this door is offset from the crate so that there is a gap below where it slides. It is in that offset, angled gap that the pup's paw got stuck. Thankfully, we were right there to free her paw immediately, but if we weren't home she could have been gravely injured trying to free the paw herself. I have had small dogs and see that this is unlikely to happen with their smaller paws, but for medium-size and larger puppies/dogs that have larger paws this is a very serious design flaw.
There really isn't much competition for sturdy, indoor pens that come with a base. I have a 21 lb mini cockapoo who is a jumper. Despite his smaller size, most of the pens were way too low. While this pen can keep him contained, if I'm leaving the house, I put the top on to make sure he does not escape. I wish it extended a foot or two longer, but it fits the crate that he sleeps in, and has enough room for him to play with his toys and lounge around. The base is made out of a brittle plastic, and arrived cracked. Otherwise it is functional, and the wood is very sturdy.
My yorkie is going to love it one end has his bed and his potty area is on the other end I purchased this crate for when I was at work to keep him out of harm’s way
Was worth every penny for a solid, easily-cleanable, and stylish cage for our indoor Flemish Giant bunny (14 lbs). Got the separate top too. Makes my life a ton easier.
I took the risk on purchasing this as it had no reviews previously I couldn't be more happy with my purchase the product is very well designed and well made with great materials very little plastic which is great in my opinion they also go to the trouble of organizing the bolts with the washers already put on. Highly recommend this product
Very nice crate. Expensive for what you get. Don't over tighten the screws or you split the wood.
