Transition Instructions

We recommend at least a 7 day transition before you begin feeding the new food exclusively. Start by mixing 75% of the old diet with 25% of the new diet on Day 1 and Day 2. On Day 3 and Day 4, mix 50% of the old diet with 50% of the new diet. On Day 5 and Day 6, mix 25% of the old diet with 75% of the new diet. On the 7th day, you can feed the new food exclusively. This allows your pet’s digestive system to smoothly adapt to the new food.

FAQ

How are Royal Canin diets preserved?

All of our dry diets are preserved naturally with mixed tocopherols, citric acid, and rosemary extract. Our canned diets are naturally preserved and sterilized during the cooking and canning process.

Where do the ingredients in Royal Canin diets come from?

We select our ingredients based on multiple factors, including the supplier’s compliance with our quality and food safety requirements, consistent availability, and on the nutrients required to meet the dietary needs of the pet.Royal Canin is making strides towards sustainability by attempting to obtain sources of raw materials as close to each manufacturing facility as possible. In some cases, we use international suppliers, because only those suppliers can offer raw materials that comply with our quality and food safety standards.

Why do some Royal Canin diets contain by-products?

Royal Canin chooses ingredients because they deliver high-quality nutrients that support our customized pet food formulas. Using chicken by-product meal instead of chicken meal for example will allow Royal Canin to maintain its highly customized nutrient standards while achieving a more secure and sustainable supply.

Why do some Royal Canin diets contain grains?

Grains can be a healthy part of any cat or dog’s diet. As always, we focus on the nutrients each ingredient provides and grains can provide many important nutrients.

How do you ensure Royal Canin diets are safe for my pet?

Our Quality and Food Safety systems are state-of-the-art and we continue to invest heavily in new technology to make sure they remain that way.* We put our suppliers through a rigorous selection process that doesn’t end with our first purchase.* We monitor every load delivered to our plants to verify the safety and quality of the ingredients we use to make pet food.* We perform tests on finished pet foods before they are shipped to our customers.* We manufacture every pet food we sell, in plants that we own; our plants are ISO 9001:2008 certified for Quality Management and ISO 22000 certified for Food Safety.

How do I know which Royal Canin diet is right for my pet?

Based on size, age, lifestyle, and breed, each cat or dog has unique nutritional needs. For healthy pets, use our Product Selector to find the right diet for your cat or dog.If your pet is experiencing health issues, please refer to your veterinarian for more information. Your veterinarian will consider multiple factors when recommending an appropriate diet.

My 2 Yorkshire Terriers love this food. They have 2 dry foods to choose from & the “Mature” formula is always empty first. It’s RoyalCanin, so I knew they’d like it. The small bites are much easier for my 16 year old, Maxx, to eat.He has lost several teeth and prefers smaller softer foods. I highly recommend the “Extra Small Mature +8 Dry Dog Food”.

  • My dogs refused to eat Nutro Ultra Senior, but love this food

I have 2 small Mixed Breed senior dogs, ages 8 and 10. I was feeding them Wellness Grain Free Salmon Dry Food - Adult Stage and decided to change to Senior Dog food. I called Chewy to request recommendations. The person was extremely helpful, spent a lot of time assisting me with my decision by comparing the ingredients. Since one of my dogs has skin and digestive issues, we both decided that the Ultra Senior Small Breed would be the best. My order arrived quickly (love Chewy's service)! I followed instructions carefully to transition them properly to their new food. After one day, they refused to eat the food and walked away from their bowls. I called Chewy. I just got a rescue dog and switched from the regular adult food to this. My dog does very well and no problem transitioning. I like the smell myself.

My chi and affenpinscher LOVE this food. They were somewhat skeptical, but they have devoured this ever since. Highly recommend the tiny kibble, which is great for my aging, limited-toothed companions.

  • Super awesome

My pup is 8 years old. She is the picket eater ever. I had to keep 3 sometimes 4 bags of food because after the 1st day or 2 she wouldn't eat it anymore. Since this food never have an issue and the small pieces are the best.

  • Best for breed!

    By on

My yorkie started out on royal canin yorkie puppy food, went to the regular for Yorkshire Terrier and now at 11 years old is eating the x-small mature +8. It is the perfect size for her tiny mouth and does not get stuck in the sides of her mouth. Seems to keep her appetite stimulated even when she is not feeling well to eat. The only drawback is the size if the bag. It only comes in 2.5 lb bags. A larger bag would be more convenient.
