We had a smaller, significantly thinner scratcher shaped like this that my cats loved, however they unfortunately smashed it under their sheer weight. This thing however, isn't going anywhere. It is super thick and sturdy. I can push on it with a ton of pressure an it doesn't budge. Appreciate someone building something without using the absolute cheapest, thinnest material.

The elderly cat I took in (20 yrs old) wasn't scratching things up that I noticed, but as soon as I got this, he's been regularly scratching and stretching on it
The elderly cat I took in (20 yrs old) wasn't scratching things up that I noticed, but as soon as I got this, he's been regularly scratching and stretching on it. The sisal material in the middle section is sturdy, natural fiber stuff which doesn't flake or shred, and he absolutely loves it. The shape makes it extremely stable; even when he walks or sits on it, there's no fear of it tipping over. Highly recommend!
Makes a mess

My cat that is full of badness, Ducky, likes to claw furniture, even though he has several different scratchers around the house. He likes to scratch then look at you like a toddler - see me... watch me!!! No amount of squirt guns would stop him! Well, I got a great new desk chair, like super duper! It took Ducky about one day to decide LETS SHRED IT! The poor beautiful chair has at least 5 blankets covering it. On a prayer I bought this cat scratcher. Both cats loved it immediately, but Ducky played King of the Mountain. He immediately started hiding toys in it, shooting out from one end to the other, wearing it like a turtle shell and using it as a SCRATCHER! I think the cats like it so much because there is carpet on the underside as well as the top (and that they can pretend to be turtles is a plus). It's really well made and very sturdy for my big fellas. Definitely recommended for even the baddest of kitties.

Dini has been scratching up my carpets. I bought these four scratchers and put them where she has been doing the most damage. I've put treats and catnip on them,
