Questions & Answers

I understand that longevity depends on usage, but about how many times can you use it? (Like 20 or 100? Ballpark please!) And, how do you know that it is empty, so that you don't expect to use it, only to find out it is empty?
Answer by ChewyDec 17, 2020
The number of uses per Dog Horn XL varies dependent on how long the actuator button is held per blast. However, the house testing resulted in getting 140 +/- short blasts per unit. The canister will get lighter as the propellent is used up giving an indication of the balance of uses left.

Is this like an air horn? Is it that loud?

Great Little Horn

Easy to use, very loud. Light weight. Nice way to intervene with dogs who haven't decided to get along without getting myself hurt.

Distraction

I only gave this four stars because I haven’t used it yet. I purchased it as a distraction for my dogs on our 10 acres if they get too far out and blow off their recalls. Also if there were ever to be any fights. I sure hope it works!

Great Purchase

This horn went to use first walk after i got it. A stray fog came charging at my small dog while we were walking around our neighborhood. My daughter used the horn, the stray went running away. Thank you so happy with the purchase will never go for a walk without it

Great product

We bought the air horn to deter coyotes when we take our three dogs out at night. We live in the mountains, so the air horn provides a great sense of security.

Works great

Saved my service dog and I. We were walking through our neighborhood and a very large Akita mixed dog came running at us with it's teeth bared and hackles up barking, my service dog and I remained calm I put him behind me. Then I blew the horn holding it down and slowly walked back with my dog while facing the attacking dog. We made it to the opposite side of the road the strange dog paused in the middle of the road startled by the VERY loud horn and a neighbor passing through stopped their car blocking the dog and traffic. They called the police and I guess this dog had killed multiple neighborhood cats and a sweet pitbull terrier. Thanks to the horn it gave us enough time to get far enough away potentially saving mine and my service dog's lives. He keeps me safe on the daily thank you for producing a product that can help me keep us safe while out.

DOES NOT WORK IN A REAL FIGHT!

This tool will deter dogs that do not want to get in a fight with other dogs. It's more like a Pet Corrector but louder. You can correct some bad behaviors but not a real fight. Unfortunately I experienced a dog fight and I literally FINISHED the whole can on the dogs faces and they kept on fighting. Then I went to a vinegar spray and that worked better than this. So only get this as a dog training tool as a negative marker but it won't work for anything beyond that!

Super loud.

Bought this to keep safe in the neighborhood as there are a lot of strays and neighbors with aggressive dogs. Haven't had to use this yet thankfully, but I did test it and it is LOUD. I like the clip that comes attached, I put it on my dog walking bag so it's easy to reach for.

Great for breaking up dog fights!

Yes, its loud! It’s an air horn. That’s what it’s supposed to be, loud and scary. My Aussies sometimes fight. I got tired of getting injured trying to pull them apart, not to mention vet bills. Bought this horn to try to scare them apart. Worked like a charm. They got into a brawl. I grabbed the can and held my finger down on the horn until they separated, maybe 10 secs. They ran right into their kennels. I will only use it for fights, never for training. They are definitely scared of it.

LOUD and wonderful!

This is exactly what I need. I wouldn’t use it for training as my dog would be freaked out. But that’s not why I bought it. I was looking for something when I take on my walks and encounter strange animals (or people)! It is extremely loud and effective.

Really scary

Yes, this product gets your dog’s attention. I had used another product that used a hissing sound which worked effectively. After a 9 day trip to the kennel, their early morning barking started again. The hissing product was no longer working. The first time I used this was at 5 am. It literally scared the crap out of my dog; also scared me and my husband didn’t know why I was blowing a fog horn. Since I used it, I’ve just yelled quiet. I suppose if the barking becomes incessant, I’ll use it again. It is a little over the top and I would not recommend it for nervous dogs.
