Switching to any new dog food should be a gradual transition over 7 to 10 days. Replace 25% of the current food with Solid Gold pet food for 2 to 3 days, then feed a little more Solid Gold pet food over the next 5 to 7 days until they are eating a Solid Gold formula exclusively. This gradual transition will help reduce any digestive upsets that may occur due to the change in diet.

Answer by • Feb 03, 2018
This recipe if formulated for the nutritional needs of adult cats. We also carry the Solid Gold Furrever Young Turkey, Potato & Cranberry Recipe Grain-Free Dry Cat Food which is for senior cats.
after chicken, the first ingredients are all 'meal' and i've read that is not a good thing as it can be any sort of a mixture of by products. how much chicken is in this product
Answer by • Dec 04, 2019
Chicken Meal is made up of chicken that has been ground and cooked, reducing the fat content to create a protein-rich ingredient. It is high in protein and amino acids to help strengthen and maintain your pet’s muscles. It is also a high-quality source of glucosamine for joint health. Chicken meal does not include feathers, heads, feet or entrails. Turkey meal is made using the same practices. If any meal contains by-products it will be labeled as a By-Product Meal. This food does not contain any by-products The exact amount of chicken in this food is proprietary to the manufacturer.

My cats have been eating this for awhile mixed with their old food that I'm trying to get them away from...I finally put just the Solid Gold in their bowls this morning and most would not eat it at all...the 2 that did reluctantly eat some went in the other room and threw up their whole stomachs! This was the 1st time I fed it to the alone...I don't know if I got a bad batch or what, I keep their foods in vacuum sealed containers so it stays fresh, but this is not acceptable! I called my vet and she said NO POTATOES and NO PEAS....cats cannot digest potatoes especially and she suggested I go back to something with brown rice and organ meats in them, as most grain free foods are not good for them! So here I go again...on the hunt for a food all 11 will eat that will not give them health problems! Plus my dogs stopped eating their Sundancer last week too! My 20 year old hound started getting mucusy diarrhea and my little chi just wouldn't eat it! I had just opened the bag too, so maybe it's the batch, but I don't know! They had been eating it for awhile too...not enthusiasticlly, but it did get eaten by the end of the day! I've been cooking for the dogs and my kitties still get their wet food, so now I have to find something new....AGAIN....geez this is getting expensive!

Food is great for my cat.
My cat loved this brand and has no problems with it. She doesn't like when I have switched to other brand and she not happy and show me she not happy with it so I had to put her back on previous food. They multiple flavors but she loves this flavor.

used to be good
My kitty had enjoyed this food for four years. But occasionally the batch switches or ingredients change. I have had to throw out three batches of these expensive bags in the last four years. That does not seem like much, but it’s a huge inconvenience. Disappointed in the quality control of this product. Please notify the manufacturer.

Love this food!
My cat Gremlin loves this food. We went through a lot of dry foods trying to find one that would sit well with her and she would actually eat and this has been the winner!

not sure this is good long-term
Been feeding Solid Gold to 3 of my cats for 2 years now. 2 came from a bad hoarding situation and immediately improved in coat, brightness in the eyes, etc. The third was a kitten when I started him on it who now has a large amount of urinary crystals. This may not be due to the food he's eating (he also gets plenty of wet food and has a water fountain) but the vet noticed hard stool in him and one other cat who is eating this, so I am going to be switching them all off to a locally made food. Probably overall a better food than most, but I'm not convinced it is the best.

Noticeable difference
Rescued my cat Scott from my moms house. It was more of a hoarding situation so he was being fed some pretty low-quality food. Eventually Scott came with us to my mother in laws home where she would only feed iams and argued that it was the best cat food ever created. Now I’ve done basic cat food research I’m not an expert, but I will say 100% have noticed a difference in Scott and now my other two cats. He become more active, lots of energy, and like some other people have said his cost is VERY shiny and silky he gets lots of compliments. My aunt feeds the sensitive stomach one to her cat and it is the ONLY thing her cat can tolerate. I’ve never really left a review before but we’ve been feeding solid gold for a little over a year and it is 100% worth it. I know it’s on the pricey side but it’s fairly affordable considering some other higher quality cat food brands. The cats love it and I can tell they’re excited to eat it and I’m hoping it will help keep my Scott healthy and happy so he can continue to be weird for many more years!

Going on the rotation
I'm so happy that all 5 of my cats really like this. They have always loved Indigo Moon, but like others have said, I found that my cats really gained weight on it. I've been looking for a lower carbohydrate food that won't break the bank, and this is lower than many foods I've been using. Plus the lower calories and the cats all love it. Big win all around!
