About SportDOG

Dog Training Gear for Every Season

It’s important that your dog’s gear is built to withstand the elements you face in the field. That’s why nothing from SportDOG gets into your hands without rigid testing. Whether you and your dog are doing daily water training in summer or breaking through winter lake ice for long retrievals, SportDOG gear can handle it.

How Do the SportDOG Models Differ?

Most SportDOG e-collars are waterproof and rechargeable and feature tone, vibe and static stim settings. The big differences between the models are collar distance range, number of dogs one remote can talk to, and remote type. Choose from remotes with features like OLED display or a tactile dial for no-look operation.

Questions & Answers

7 Customer Questions

can this be used for cats
Answer by ChewySep 14, 2017
This product is intended for dogs.

How many batteries are needed?
Answer by ChewyOct 09, 2022
This beacon requires (2) replaceable CR2032 batteries. To replace them, unscrew the colored lens of the light. It only turns counterclockwise 30 degrees or so. Once it stops turning you can pull it off to expose two 2032 batteries. There is a rubber o-ring between the lens and the body of the light that can make it tough to pull apart. You will want to insert both batteries with the positive side facing down. When you do this properly, the positive side of the battery will be touching the base of the Beacon which shows a "+".

Will this fit on any width of collar
Answer by ChewyOct 09, 2022
This accessory is designed to fit both 1 inch and 3/4 inch collar straps.

What are the 2 brightest colors out of all the available colors
Answer by ChewyApr 14, 2022
While all of the SportDOG beacons will provide a bright, long range light, the clear white will be the brightest.

Bright light but difficult to turn off and on

This is a very bright light. However, it is difficult to turn on - there is a small button on the side that you have to push and hold. It says to hold for 3 seconds but I have had to hold for more than 10 seconds to get it to turn on. Then, when I want to turn off, it has to go to flashing mode first after holding for about 10 seconds and then another 10 seconds before it turns off. But, if you hold it too long waiting for it to turn off, it turns back on again! Also, I don't have buckle collars but rather quick release collars so attaching to the collar was not an option; had to finnagle the light onto the clip (not an easy feat). There are lights out there that are easier to use and easier to attach to collars - I would not recommend this one.

Hard to turn on and off

The on and off button is so tiny very hard to turn on and off. Battery life does not last 260 hours, maybe if is on the flash mode. I am replacing batteries for the second time in 5 months use 1 hour a day. The best way to use it is tied on the collar. I do like it. Easy to see my dog at night.

Great light for evening walks

I wanted a light for evening walks in our local park where we share the trails with bicycles. I read lots of negative reviews for lots of lights and finally ordered this one, fingers crossed. This light is perfect. I attach it to my labradoodle’s collar with the carabiner that comes with the light. It is easy to put on and remove. The light is easy to turn on and off. I use my fingernail to hold in the little button. I have used it 4-5 times and we’ve gotten a few compliments from other walkers. The light is bright enough to make my dog visible, and not so bright that it annoys her. I recommend this one.

Great Light but Poor Attachment

Had light for two days securely attached to my dogs 3/4" e-collar. Put it on based on instructions. Disappeared after bringing him in the second evening. The light itself is great, and will hopefully get refunded/replaced. I would second the idea in another review of using a glue as well

The Best Light Yet!

We have had this light since we first acquired(rescued) our Black Lab Jake. First time dog owners, and living out in the country made it somewhat costly to keep our new companion safe. We have tried many collar lights to keep track of him, not to mention the many collars, shock collar, containment systems etc. After replacing batteries in the multiple collar lights that are now stock piled in the doggy drawer, we found ourselves back to this SportDog light. 250 hours of light, and a bright light makes this our best guaranteed way of keeping our Jake safe, and seen by all when out for a walk or out gallivanting. But, this time my husband attached a quick-clip collar hook which he strung the light through, so we can simply take it on and off as needed(we remove it during daylight hours being it does dangle). If it is challenging to turn the light on and off, try using a key. I use my house key to depress the button being it is always with me when I am outside with Jake. I do like the idea, as seen in a previous review, to turn the dome a half turn to turn on and off. I am just not sure my trigger thumb will allow me to apply this trick, and I fear that I may not get it tight enough for to keep it water-tight. I will be ordering more of these SportDog lights, being they would make a great gift for most any dog owner.

A bright lite to keep your pet in sight at night !!!!

I have 2 dogs and a large area of ground at my home, and I let them out early when still dark out and I find it easy to keep track of them with the flashing white light. Sportdog makes a good product, as I have the elec. training collar from sportdog also and both work great with no problems.----BOB

Excellent light

Light is very high quality. A little tricky to turn on and off but once you get the hang of it it's fine. The The clasp is a little weak But still a great product for the price.

Wouldn’t buy again

My husband has something similar to these for his hunting dogs. I bought two to put on my hound as well, a safety measure for hunting at night. These lights are very hard to open, and neither he or I could ever get either to work, even after reading the directions. Wouldn’t buy again.

Not a good product

Did not get to see how it worked because it fell off my dog's collar somewhere. Hard to attach also.

Really bright

I love it ... it’s a really bright light. My black lab is 12 y.o and he likes to walk in the woods without a leash. I started to worry about him bc he is old now but with this light I always know where he is.
