About SportDOG

Dog Training Gear for Every Season

It’s important that your dog’s gear is built to withstand the elements you face in the field. That’s why nothing from SportDOG gets into your hands without rigid testing. Whether you and your dog are doing daily water training in summer or breaking through winter lake ice for long retrievals, SportDOG gear can handle it.

How Do the SportDOG Models Differ?

Most SportDOG e-collars are waterproof and rechargeable and feature tone, vibe and static stim settings. The big differences between the models are collar distance range, number of dogs one remote can talk to, and remote type. Choose from remotes with features like OLED display or a tactile dial for no-look operation.

Not seeing a clear answer, what exactly is static stimulation? Is this vibration or basically electric shock?

Answer by ChewyMar 07, 2018
Static correction is a very mild, harmless electric stimulation that gets your pet's attention. Pets experience a light tingling sensation on the skin that gets their attention or startles them and interrupts their behavior.

I understand that the battery will last up to 200 hours after charging, but how many times can you recharge it before the end of its battery life? Can I purchase extra batteries if need be?

Answer by ChewyJun 09, 2018
This collar may be charged as needed even before the end of it's battery life. At this time, replacement batteries are not available for purchase.

Can you just buy one for two dogs and train separately on different days?

Answer by ChewyFeb 20, 2018
Two dogs can certainly be trained with one collar.

How long are the standard points?

Answer by ChewyDec 12, 2019
The standard points are 1/2 inch long. The long contact points are 5/8 inch long.

Random Shocking - Needs to be fixed

I purchased this model for the "learning" ability to use with my 4 1/2 month old lab to deter him from barking at inappropriate times. Yesterday it went off randomly when he had not barked while I was at the store. Luckily, my husband was home and managed the awful situation. My pup was so freaked out because he had no idea why he was being shocked, had not barked. To make matters worse, it seemed that it kept going. My husband had to try and wrangle a distraught 35lb pup that didn't want to hold still because he was trying desperately to get away from what was hurting him. When I researched some more last night, this appears to be a known issue others have experienced with this collar. SportDog, please fix the bug! That terrified my pup for now, I'll deal with his barking until I find a better solution.

This bark collar worked at first, but then it shocked my puppy when she was just lying down and not barking at all. Of course, she yelped and was very confused and pained. I would definitely not recommend this for that reason. The collar should not shock when your dog is not barking. I'm hoping I can get a refund.

Too much for small dog

We have 2 collars and we like the fact it knows which dog but our other dogs is 11 pounds. It feels way too strong for her.

I got this collar for both of my Dobermans thinking that it was a smart collar that would adapt but it does not work. It always goes back to level one shock, and even though my dogs bark, it will slowly go up, which makes it worse. ONLY USE USER SELECTED mode.

That is easy to use

Rechargeable and actually does what I need it to as far as the shock correction. Other products say they do but they either don't or stop working as they need to

The collar corrected my dog on progressive mode up to level 4 while she was asleep on the couch NOT making any noise. Needless to say, this was traumatizing for her and the family. We were all confused and she was yelping, so she continued to get corrected until I could finally unbuckle the collar and remove it. Then my dog ran to the corner and hid. I looked up why this could happen and the only thing I found on the sportdog website was that the collars should not be worn with standard ID collars containing metal tags. That was not in the manual that came with the product or I would have taken my dog's ID collar off prior to trying the sportdog collar. I am too apprehensive to try again. We have an e collar that is manually controlled and we will continue to use that. We are returning the sportdog collar.
