About SportDOG

Dog Training Gear for Every Season

It’s important that your dog’s gear is built to withstand the elements you face in the field. That’s why nothing from SportDOG gets into your hands without rigid testing. Whether you and your dog are doing daily water training in summer or breaking through winter lake ice for long retrievals, SportDOG gear can handle it.

How Do the SportDOG Models Differ?

Most SportDOG e-collars are waterproof and rechargeable and feature tone, vibe and static stim settings. The big differences between the models are collar distance range, number of dogs one remote can talk to, and remote type. Choose from remotes with features like OLED display or a tactile dial for no-look operation.

Sport Dog quit making their classic orange whistle, but when I found this one, I was thrilled. Sport Dog has always made the best whistles and I hope they continue to make this style of whistle. I hunt my dog & it’s often windy, or he is out on long retrieves and this is the only whistle that is loud enough for dogs to hear and trainers that I know also agree.

When I read the negative reviews on this whistle I was very afraid to try it. It came in today and I had to go out and to the backyard with the dogs and try it. My two senior dogs are in different stages of deafness and I can't yell or whistle loud enough for them to hear me when they're out in the back. I gave a couple of blasts of this whistle and all three dogs turn around, looked at me and started barking. Okay, so that didn't really prove anything, but at least I do know they heard it. Later tonight my 13 year old went out for her final potty break, she was out back probably 80 yards from the house. My husband picked up the whistle and blew it and she came running into the house. That's an A+ in my book. One Thing I might mention is that I had my digital hearing booster in my ears the first time I blew it, and I couldn't hear it. I turned around to my son who was standing out there with me on the patio and he was covering his ears. I said, you can hear it? And he said yes. I took the hearing boosters out of my ears and blew it again and I could hear it. I guess the Bose hearing boosters don't pick up frequencies that high, and when people say they don't hear this whistle at all, and I'm wondering if they have lost the upper register of their hearing. It's a very high pitch. I can't guarantee you that this whistle will help with training your dog, but at least I know my dogs can hear it, have already responded to it, and it gives me hope. Good luck with your pups, and give them a hug.

I have had this whistle for many years. It is intended to provide audible clues to dog when it is beyond shouting range. It is in no way silent. The black pastic part simply directs the sound forward and not in all directions. I find it more comfortable on my ears that an open whistle. It is a little bulky and I wish the brass attacment ring did not open up --like a true splint ring design or welded ring. But otherwise this is a well made product and intended for a specific purpose.
