About SportDOG

Dog Training Gear for Every Season

It’s important that your dog’s gear is built to withstand the elements you face in the field. That’s why nothing from SportDOG gets into your hands without rigid testing. Whether you and your dog are doing daily water training in summer or breaking through winter lake ice for long retrievals, SportDOG gear can handle it.

How Do the SportDOG Models Differ?

Most SportDOG e-collars are waterproof and rechargeable and feature tone, vibe and static stim settings. The big differences between the models are collar distance range, number of dogs one remote can talk to, and remote type. Choose from remotes with features like OLED display or a tactile dial for no-look operation.

Questions & Answers

Does collar come with different points for replacement probes?

Answer by ChewyJan 08, 2023
This training collar does not come with replacement points. However, it does come with 1 set of long contact points ( 5/8 inch (1.6cm) long) and 1 set of standard contact points (1/2 inch (1.3cm) long).

This states that it is waterproof, does that mean my dog can swim for hours at a time and it still work when he gets out?

Answer by ChewyApr 15, 2020
SportDOG collars are equipped with DryTek® technology making it completely waterproof so they can absolutely leave this receiver collar on their dogs during their swim time. Frequent trips to the pool will not bother them at all. It is recommended to rinse the receiver collar off with fresh water daily once the dog has finished using the pool for the day.

What’s the range

Our 10 year-old 425X collar battery gave up the ghost. And since we live in a wooded area and the 425 wasn’t strong enough once they were out of eyesight, it was time for an upgrade. The 1825X has been spectacular so far. Much more substantial remote and collar but still comfortable for human and canine. The add-on collar for the second dog transitioned flawlessly to the new remote and seems to work better than before. The 1825X has the designated (faster) dog galloping back quickly (set on tone only) from somewhere I couldn’t even guess. Very happy with this purchase!

Not worth the money

I’m very disappointed with the Sporthunter 1825X. We paid over $300 for this collar just 4 years ago, and it hasn’t even seen much use, probably sat unused for 2 years. When the remote stopped working, I followed SportDOG’s advice and bought a new $30 battery. That wasn’t the problem. We discovered the actual issue is the tiny connection on the circuit board where the battery plugs in. If it happens to sit just right, the remote works, but otherwise it doesn’t. SportDOG doesn’t care and won’t stand behind the product because it’s outside their 2-year warranty. Their “solution” is to charge $180 for a replacement remote, more than half the cost of the entire unit! That’s ridiculous. If you think you’re buying a higher-end, durable product by spending the extra money, think again. It’s not worth the investment, and when it fails, you’re on your own. Buyer beware.

Quality eCollar Dog Trainer Device

I highly recommend this product. It comes with an excellent dog training booklet that helps guide the user. Also, the customer service was immediately available

I highly recommend this product. It comes with an excellent dog training booklet that helps guide the user. Also, the customer service was immediately available and very helpful. Our dog was originally trained on this device, and we were sorry to have taken a year later to purchase it. We needed the reinforcement, and our dog was immediately aware that alpha just got out of the box. :) It was money was spent!

This system has worked great for stopping my dog from chasing deer far, far away and getting lost in grizzly & wolf country (after it happened a few times!). Seems well-built and reliable and the battery has never failed me. All this said, as with any e-collar, DO NOT use this product if you can not get your dog to reliably listen to your commands using positive reinforcement training - it will not help you train your dog in this case, it will only help you traumatize them. Listen to the manual. We worked hard together on recall using a lot of treats over many hours and this was the final cherry on top to keep her safe! And for that, it's excellent!
